Has anyone tried upgrading RNS510 to 1100 firmware ?

Featured Replies

Looking at possibility of upgrading firmware from 1004 to 1100, which apparently brings the RNS510 firmware up to Model B level, from Model A.

Has anyone successfully tried it yet ?

I am aware of the potential 'bricking' issues involved before you all shout at me :)

The 1100 firmware does not work on the Skoda 1Z0 unit, only the 1T0 unit. If you have a 1Z0 unit its possible to modify the slightly older 904 firmware so that it will install and give you unit the same functionality and display changes as a B unit.

I know Mater tried it and it refused to accept the disk.

Yup I did try it. It got all the way through to the point were you normally would click ok to begin update and it then said it was the wrong image or something along those lines. I have updated to 0904 firmware but even then you can't go to 1104 or 1164 ( which is the latest ) as the disc stops at the same point.

There is a problem with the 0904 firmware though. Which is when you are navigating you can't get out of the route instruction display on the maxidot. Also the same thing happens if you select audio. Also the GPS can sometimes take a while (2-3 mins) to locate where you are if you have been parked up in an area with no GPS reception say your garage. Last thing I have found is that intermittently the audio does not start from where it left off when the unit has been switched off and switched back on. I will restart from the beginning of he song. You can modify the firmware to solve this however if you get it wrong you brick the unit as Micky32 found out.

However the software is better. Bit quicker loading times etc and you get visual balance & fader and support for Bluetooth audio in the menu.

I am hoping that Skoda will do another upgrade for the 1Z0 units that incorporates the 3T0 features so that I can go back to 1024 then upgrade to that.
