Catch can to PD TDI VRS

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted a breather catch-can to their VRS TDI. Ive seen it on Fabias but there is not much room in the Octy 2 engine bay.

Pics would be good.

a what? :confused::confused::confused:

I was wondering what that was too, until I looked it up and it's a modification to stop oil going into your air filter. Apparently.

Well actually its a simple device.

As part of emission controls the engine crank case is vented not to atmosphere but through the engine itself so that the oil mist is recirculated in with the fresh clean air and is burnt in the cylinders and expelled through the exhaust.

This mist enters the air flow after the air filter but before the turbo and inter cooler. It is the main reason why your intercooler internals and turbo are coated in a thick tar-like layer.

It contaminates the the air-fuel mixture and has been associated with turbo failure especially those with variable vanes - which get stuck up with all the gunk.It may also make the intercooler less effecient.

The catch can is a collection vessel for the oil to settle into before the air enters inlet manifold via the recirculation system or is passed straight back to atmosphere in some modified systems.

Hope that helps

Be interesting to see if you can get one fit to the car.

I've asked this question an numerous occasions when reading other threads, but to no avail, I would certainly be interested in doing this mod.

Ive actually got a catch can but never fitted it. Now that the car has just been for its 1st service I shall have a play under the bonnet. Will post if I come up with something reasonable.
