Hi there

colour

Storm Blue Metallic (£400.00)

Acoustic front and rear parking sensors (£260.00)

Curtain airbags (£280.00)

ESP, inc. ABS+MBA+MSR+ASR+EDL+HBA (£365.00)

Roof rails, silver (£125.00)

I heard someone say about dealers knocking the VAT off at the moment. How much should I expect to pay?

I test drove the 1.8 last year and loved it except the seatbelts cut into mine and my kids' necks as they are too high up (yes I know you can get kidddy safety things from Halford to readjust them but as an adult I would feel a bit of a plonker...). What other cars should I test drive? I'm really short of time and would be dragging round two very very reluctant children so I need to shorten the short list. Golf plus? Avensis? I don't know whether I could bear to have a Ford or Astra....

You can adjust the height of the seat belts up and down on the B-pillar. I'm only 5'7" and I don't need the lowest setting.

It's the belts across the back seats that are a problem - there was certainly no adjustment on the 1.8 saloon we test drove last year but can you adjust on the estate?

Nope, if the belts are cutting into them it would suggest that they need a booster seat to be honest.

CharlieB72 Check out Buy a Car, Deals on New Cars, drivethedeal.com, New Car Discount, Car Deal Online That spec currenlty comes in at £15017.25 OTR(although it only lists front parking sensors)

I just ordered my new VRS estate through them and saved £3761.19 off list inc optional extras. Little tip for drivethedeal website.... the price seems to be lower at the end / last week of the month as a guess the dealers are more desperate for sales to hit their targets. The price of my car dropped by £1500 on Thursday when I ordered it from the price quoted during the first 3 weeks in July. (I kept checking each day since the start of July and I'm pretty sure the price will go up again during the first 3 weeks in August).

Based on driving my mother's Avensis if you like the way Skodas feel you probably won't like the Avensis - it feels like all the controls have a jump of rubber between them and the rest of the car - steering, gearbox and handbrake are all mushy. It's a nice car otherwise, but it'd want to be given it's a class bigger than the Octavia...

Under scrap-age scheme, a month ago I was quoted £16500 by local Skoda dealer for 1.8 L&K TSI estate with DSG, which was about £2000 less than I was expecting. Unfortunatrely no cars around to test drive!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. So far 2 quotes.

From Skoda dealer: £14243.48 (1.8 Octavia Estate) + curtain air bags + esp + spare tyre + metallic paint + delivery + fee + VED = £15791.96

Drivethedeal (same spec quoted July 30th) = £14849.25

Thanks for the advice about drivethedeal - haven't checked August prices yet!

Not sure want front parking sensors as well though the husband thinks I need them . The Skoda dealer is telling us to choose sooner than later as the VAT free offer is only on cars on the road by Dec 31st. It could take 3 months + from ordering to get the car. As of end of July we can now get 2 years interest free credit from the dealer if we put 50% down.

Very tempting....

Has anyone tried the various products on the market for adjusting the seatbelt height so it doesn't go so close to a child's neck? Halfords had several different devices.
