Bying Fabia Vrs with new engine

Featured Replies

Have chance of a fabia vrs 2004 with 73k on the clock 1 owner from new with a full skoda service history at same garage. only problem is it has had a brand new engine fitted which has only done 4k. it was fitted at a skoda dealer, checked today with the garage, there told me it was a crank shaft problem so had to fit a new engine, anybody heared of this before. the car is in great condition with no dints in only a few scratch marks.

Think i will get the car for £4700. should i bye or give it a miss

Rare for that kind of problem, and if you want the car for some time, can't go wrong at a good price with a new engine in it. :thumbup:

Any major problems i should look out for

dodgy crankshafts :D

Seriously, there's not much else common to look out for, just the usual car related things.

:rofl::rofl:

All kidding aside, it may be worth getting in touch with the previous owner to just check exactly what did go wrong, as there is a lot more to an 'engine' than the 'engine' if you understand me. It's unlikely that it had all new ancillaries as well as a new engine.

And what do they mean by 'new'. Is it a truly new engine or is it an exchange unit or has it been rebuilt? How has the swap been recorded? Does it have new manifolds and Turbo? When the crankshaft siezed did it do anything to the gearbox? The car isn't especially cheap and I would want to have all the answers as it may well seriously affect future resale value. It will certainly affect the servicing schedule.

This man speaks sense! If it were me, i would ask the above questions about the engine before going ahead

When the crankshaft siezed .........

no mention of a crankshaft seizure by the OP, there are plenty of reasons for an engine change due to a crankshaft problem other than a seizure

but i would still find out the reason for the new engine before buying

OK, I wasn't aware of that, I've only ever heard of them seizing, generally because of lubrication or bearing failure.

Another convert from a Golf to a Fabia?

crankshaft siezure in gear wouldnt be good , would check that
