Tracking Systems

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Was just wondering what is the best tracker on the market is and if they are approved by insurance companies(thatcham approved?).

Obviously without going into too much info if you have one in your car....was just wondering of any recommendations or who to steer clear of?

Thanks

They are all pretty much the same these days in that they all do the same thing. The favourites used to be Tracker and RAC trackstar but there are so many more now. Insurance, well it depends and quiet often the tracker subscription is far more than you would save in your premium. Thieves now know all about trackers and their usual installation locations, and rip them out sometimes in minutes. They will help you get your car back if its stolen by say an opportunist, but a pro then there is no hope in seeing the car again.

Best thing is not to advertise the fact it's fitted!

One thing you can put on any vehicle is Datatag, it costs around £50-60, you insert RFID tags into seats & use the nail-varnish stuff to put microdots on the car bodywork, wheels etc in non intrusive places.

Use it on my m/c, it instantly took £15 off the insurance, whilst it cost £45 two years ago, it'll pay for itself next year.

In hindsight I think I would opt to pay the fees if I had the choice as 4 weeks ago my house was burgled by opportunist burglars - Car was taken along with other items.

The day after I got a car from my insurance but I only had that for 2 weeks.

For the last 2 weeks I have had no form of transport and already I know I have lost/spent more money than the fees for a tracker.

3 yrs NCB down the pan has lost me the most.

Now everywhere I go I see VRS's and none of them are mine :(

I would agree that Trackers would only benefit some me having been one of them.

I have a Tracker Retrieve (not that you'd know to look at the car! ) Had one on my last car too. Tracker suppposedly works off VHF/UHF signals rather than sat nav, as (they claim) sat nav systems are pretty easily defeated by just driving the car into an ISO container on a lorry and driving it away. This would of course only really be a risk for something 'stolen to order' - so probably only cars costing ten times what mine does. Still, if it's stolen and recovered by Old Bill, Tracker will pay some poor so-and-so to guard the car until the tow truck arrives. Having said that, in this day of cameras rather than patrol cars, I'm not sure how many patrol cars the local constabulary actually has that can follow the Tracker signal... :(

Never got any kind of insurance discount for having one; doesn't mean I'm not glad to have it. IIRC, it was GBP800 to have the thing fitted and a subscription for as long as I own the car (5 years and counting...)

Got a link for that?

Got cobra trak 5 and it seems to work, has certainly gone off when i forgot about it and recieved very prompt alerts.

The one that I'd recommend is the Tracker Response. Info here:

CLICKY

It is the top end unit and it constantly monitors the car, even when your asleep. Handy if your car goes in for a service too as you can monitor online if the car is being driven etc.
