Towing with a 1.9Tdi

Featured Replies

There have been a couple of threads about this subject recenlty. So, personal info from me......

We wnet to pick up our new caravan yesterday, which involved a trip from NE London to North Norfolk, with an over night stop to play with the new toy.

Tow car 1.9Tdi Estate 4x4. Caravan Gobur Carousel 749Kg ex works. what wa in it had mainly gone up in the car, probably about 50Kg.

Performance. More than adequate. I tried one 'can I get out and moving before that car gets here' at a junction, and ended up pulling away from him, so good acceleration. Normal driving - considering weight on the ball good, although there is a tendency to need one gear lower. having said that, cruising at 50mph - limit in single carriageway - 6th can be a little high, as the engine is below the turbo. On dual carriageways there were few problems maintaining the 60 limit, in sixth.

Any downsides? Only the one trip fuel consumption going 54+mpg. coming back? Mid 30's.

Am I happy to carry on with the outfit?

YES!
