Xenon lights driving in Europe

Featured Replies

I have had a look through the forums and can't see a thread on this, but sorry if I am asking the same thing that has already been asked.

Does anyone have instructions on how to switch Octavia II Xenon lights for driving on the right? I took the car to Skoda and they say you have to take the light completely out to do it. The brand new Octavia apparently can do it through the MFD, but not 57 plates.

Skoda say the won't charge me for it, which is good, but I am amazed that it needs this much engineering to do it. Additionally, I think this goodwill from Skoda may not spread to multiple trips over the channel. My research suggests that beam benders on Xenons are a bad thing even if you could work out where to put there because there are no markings.

Can I assume also, that you don't need actual replacement Xenons in a bulb kit? The french plods wouldn't actually make you replace one of those by the roadside!

I think a £5 generic set from Halfrauds should do the trick to show willing I thought like to hope.

cheers in advance for your thoughts

The instructions are around - the main reason you need to take the light unit out is because since the bonnet doesn't continue over the lights there's no way to get at the back of the light apart from this. You'll need a small flathead screwdriver and that's all tools required. The instructions are available somewhere, but I can't find them - they're saved on my hard drive, but that's not a lot of use for sending on the internet...

Last year I fitted beam-benders - the packaging gave instructions for Mk 1 & II Octavias - but strangely they were different for standard, Scout and VRS versions - sounds fishy.

They didn't bend but did mask the worst of the beam shining into the left hand lane. I got flashed once, in a few night trips, but that's normal in the UK too.

The right answer is to take the light unit out, and flip the internal mask, but it really should be easier than this.

Search for continenet lights and you should find a guide with pics.

Many say it only takes 5-10 minutes to do.
