312mm brakes - Pad retaining plate

I have some 312mm brakes for my Fabia vRS, and they do not have a pad retaining plate (see part4 in this diagram http://briskoda.net/technical-guides/312mm-brakes-pictorial/47673/3/#post1777835 ).

I understand this diagram is regarding the 288mm setup that is standard, however I wondered if it is something i require.

I was wondering the same. My pads rattle in the carrier going over bumps. Get really annoying...

The 312 brakes use an ATE caliper instead of the Lucas 288 caliper in that diagram. The ATE calipers do not have a retaining pad just the retaining springs on the outside of each caliper.

And the spring is seriously a pain to pop back in when you've just painted you calipers.

Anyone know if there's a little special tool or anything?

Couldn't agree more - had to use pliers and a large quantity of muscle, and they will still require a touch up with the paint :weeping:

Ad - yeah finally got them on - and the difference is remarkable! As numerous threads on here say, you may not stop quicker (i think you do!) but you definately have far more feedback and can use them more progressively, rather than off or on!

How did the stickering go?!
