What engine in facelift vrs?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what engine is in the facelift vrs. I thought it was getting the 2.0 tsi but many websites state that it has the same 2.0t fsi?

My main reason for wondering is the remap potential of the tsi, which seems to get better results than the fsi.

My LE VRS has the newer 2.0TSI engine, so i would think that the new VRS will have the same.

Yes, me too... It's the same of the new Golf GTI...

It is exactly the same engine with the same output ie 197 bhp as the non-facelift vRS

the weight of the new car is lighter by approx 20kg apparently

It isn't, the GTi puts out 210ps. Don't know whether it just runs a different map though.

If it is the new 2.0 Turbo petrol engine (EA888 family) it is significantly different (mechanically) to the old 2.0 TFSI, even though they both have the same rated power and torque. Amongst the major changes are a cam chain instead of a rubber belt, 4 lobe HPFP, more torque at low revs, and IIRC the turbo is built into the exhaust manifold or something. The Audi versions also have variable valve timing (which VW currently doesn't get). The EA888 family also include the 1.8 turbo petrol motor in Octy Mk IIs (which is different to the one in the Octy Mk1 vRS).

You can't rely on TFSI or TSI labels meaning anything on a VAG car these days, the marketing gurus have defeated the engineers and have even manged to put a TFSI label on the Audi supercharged V6 !!!

Admittedly they haven't reached the crazy heights BMW have managed with their "engine power" labels which used to denote engine capacity ( eg a 323 is now actually a 2.5 litre six, the various 3.0 liter sixes have anything from a x28 badge through x30, x35, and the hipo twin turbo has an x40 badge, which is also seen on some 4.0 V8s, just to keep things confusing)
