...at alex lawrie in liverpool and was very impreesed, its for my wife as shes after somothing bigger than her micra (so thats any car  ) shes had her heart set on a large car (but not 4X4) and the nissan quashqui (spelling) is ideal. but the yeti has now caused her a small problem as shes undiceded! It was very roomy in the rear (for child) and the fact the rear seats are removable is a good feature.

only issue we noticed is that the 1.2 petrol engine costs £150 a year to tax! :thumbdwn: which seems alot considring my 1.9tdi is £120ish!

That's not bad at all for a petrol of this size and weight, I would think the Nissan will be no better.

I would go with the Yeti, as you say it as the Roomster seat system, the 1.2 engine is new and performs well for it's size and opt for 'S' trim and above and you get 7 airbags plus a good standard of kit.:)

The fact the Quashqai has Renault DNA would be enough to put me off it, TBH

It is a turbo though. £150 road tax is 1.6 petrol/40 mpg territory which is not bad.

These threads are becoming surreal - "I saw a Yeti today" ;)

Anyway getting to the point, the Qashqai was also on my shortlist a few years ago but I ended up getting the Fabia VRS (mostly down to cost at the time). Now looking to change again and the Qashqai is back on the list but like you after seeing the Yeti I think it is a serious alternative.

When it first came out, I thought the Qashqai looked amazing (in faded denim colour) but think nowadays it's looking a bit tired. It drives well and a nice high driving position and the boot seems huge though on paper is no different to the Yeti.

What's leaning me towards the Yeti...

  • It's a brand new model, the Quashqai has been out for a long time
  • Current experience with Skoda and my Fabia - very good
  • Potentially much better performance thanks to the 1.8tsi and great diesel engines - the Qashqai is a little slow in comparison (I went out in the 2.0 petrol Qashqai and it isn't bad but not exactly lots of poke in reserve for overtaking). Fastest 0-60 for Qashqai is 10.1s - no I'm not suggesting people would by this type of car for this reason but it is quite a way away from the Yeti performance.
  • The Qashqai roof didn't open on the one I drove and to my knowledge this is still the case. The Yeti sunroof is a proper one and opens up really big
  • Yeti seats seemed as comfy as the Qashqai
  • I don't think you can take out the back seats completely in the Qashqai but may be wrong - at least the Qashqai brochure doesn't mention it.
  • You can buy a cuddly Yeti as an option
  • If you buy a Qashqai no-one will notice. Get a Yeti and people will stop and stare and wonder "What's that". Well for the first few weeks anyway ;)

In all honesty to laypeople such as myself either car is an excellent choice but the Yeti could end up being both cheaper and a much newer model to boot.

PS. Forgot to add - Yeti is easy to spell. Qashqai is not.

you have no problem buying a £12000 car but you do have a problem with the £150 tax ?

yeah, as i paid £14k for a car with a bigger engine and paying £120 tax.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the new 1.2 turbo in there soon.

That was a diesel though, which always have lower CO2. For a petrol engine in this size of car, the 1.2TSIs emissions are very good. You could always get a 110TDI?
