Evo's, Driving abroad and Some clean car pics!

Featured Replies

Hey all! Wondered if anyone could help me out with this;

My friends and I have decided that for a lads holiday instead of Ibiza/Magaluf/Prague etc. etc. we'd all get our dream cars (Well, not dream as a 911 GT3 is a tad out of my price range :P) and drive across Europe (Hitting some of the roads from Top Gears perfect road episode) for about 2-3 weeks totalling about 3 and a bit thousand miles :D

Questions were that I know some folks from here have done the Czech trip and I was wondering how much was the insurance to travel abroad? How much fuel you petrolheads managed to consume? And any hidden costs involved? For example changing the direction of the headlights, needed?

Another thing is I'm looking at an Evo 7 or 8 for my fun Euro car (And trackday fun when I get back ) and wondering if anyone can comment on these cars? Would either compliment the Fabia vRS well? Any issues i should look out for when looking for one? Any specific model to go for?

And to keep all this slightly on topic lmao, cleaned my car yesterday with the nice weather we're finally having and thought i'd post some pics up of her all clean n shiny :D Also got my Polo rear wiper fitted and think it looks much better than the standard one it comes with ;-)

Pics too big

Drop on lancer register for advice on which one, there may be some for sale as well. Should be reliable, however, ride will be hard (possibly not to bad on European roads) and my guess is cruising at 80 you'd be lucky to get 25mpg so regular fuel stops. If you push on mountain passes probably 15 mpg.

If you have a look in the international meets, there was a group of us did a similar trip last year, so there is a good selection of Mountain passes and directions shown.

If you can afford fully-comp (probably not too bad on a VII as it'll be at least 6 years old), then a certain amount of Continental cover should be thrown in anyway...

If it isn't included it should only cost around £20 to add it as I did on my last policy and you're usually covered for up to 90 days at a time I believe.

Most fully comp. policies should include it though.

Like the rear wiper btw... looks pretty slick!

Cheers for the quick replies lads :-D. Will check out that website for the Evo info and will also check my insurance for that continental cover when getting a qoute :-). Anyone know anything about the headlights etc?

Oh and only 1 mention for my car? :-p

nice to hear the add on insurance is so cheap :-D. And about the Evo VI, I'd go for the earlier ones but I don't like the look of them unfortunately, it's the massive fog lights that irk me lol

EU cover is normally a max of 90 days per year, up to 30 at a time. Check with your insurer to make sure this is correct for your policy.

If the car is a track day/weekend car, perhaps a limited use/mileage policy would be best? Might keep costs down. You may be able to get a multi car discount with your VRs.

Don't forget all the EU essentials, fluro jackets (inside the car!), fire extinguisher, bulbs, first aid kit, warning triangle etc etc. You may be able to get proper clip on covers for the car (Skoda do them for the Fabia) which saves the horrid stick on ones. An EU Sat Nav might be useful too...

Can't help with the car though!
