Clutch Control

Featured Replies

Sorry if this seems a stupid question but when I drive pretty much any vehicle I can pull off with just the clutch and no throttle unless it's on a hill. Obviously riding a clutch does damage to it but what about pulling off with just the clutch?

You're just pulling away with less throttle, although you'll probably need to let the clutch slip for longer as the car speeds up to a point where the engine's producing enough power to sustain motion. So ultimately, I'd say it'd cause more wear than doing it 'properly'... :ne_nau:

theres no problem with doing that, especially in a deisel, less power through the clutch = less wear.... (unless you have to ride it for longer like above post suggests, but hat probably wont happen if its deisel....)

Yeah that's what I thought. Thanks.

I find that even in my little petrol I can get it rolling very quickly with the clutch alone and once it has started to move I can let go of the clutch completely so there is a very short time that I am 'riding' the clucth.

It makes sense that there would be less wear on the clucth as the revs and power going through the clutch aren't as high as when you rev the engine at the same time.
