Wiper Arm

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I need a new wiper arm (see picture) for my vRS, as I managed to crack the current one... don't even ask!!!

How easy are they to fit? Or is it a main dealer job? I need to get them to adjust my headlights anyway, so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, unless it's a simple DIY task...

Thought the wiper arms are made of metal - correct me if I'm wrong

I haven't done it on the fabia but normally theres a bolt under the plastic round cap on your arm. On the other cars I've worked on you simply undo this bolt and replace the arm. shouldn't take you long if thats all thats needed.

That's what I like to hear - can anyone confirm?

Yep the arms are made of metal...!

nut under the round plastic cover, probably 15 or 16mm , the problem you may have is the arms are usually a pig to get off due to corrosion on the spindle splines, and as you will have less to waggle to free the arm from the splines , you may have to get a special puller to release the arm

arm is made from cast aluminium

I know you said not to...

but how'd ya manage that? ;)

I'm sure you can guess!

Cleaning car, wipers up, open the bonnet to check the levels... crack!

Feel like the biggest idiot going! :thumbdwn:

You're really lucky not to have lost a chunk of paint on the trailing edge of the bonnet doing that!

Trust me mate, That sounds exactly like the kinda stunt I'd pull! So don't feel so silly :)

Citroen C4's have a bonnet / wiper design that means the wipers foul the bonnet edge even when the arms are down!

When I looked to change my last Furby I went to a car supermarket to keep an open mind.. ( they had a black vRS in, funny that)..

anyway.. they all had paint chipping and rust on the top edge when the arms had scraped.. my mate bought one and I responsibly pointed this out.. he wasn't pleased..

Thanks, it was a total epic fail on my behalf, though!!

I've got it booked in at a main dealer, adjusting the headlights for £40 and changing the wiper arm free of charge (!), so it could be a lot worse!

Funnily enough i was driving home today and went to clean the windscreen and the cast aluminium wiper arm snapped clean in half!

 unlucky! My new one cost circa £40 + VAT (free fitting) from a main dealer.

Did you not try your local scrapyard

Hello ocrx8

I am truly amazed that it cost you £46.00 for a replacement arm !!!

Make's me think I'm gonna be carefully when I go near mine.

I managed to pick up both drivers and passengers side for £20 from a scrapyard

As above, it's a lot cheaper from a scrappy, but I had to get some other things done at the dealer, and my DIY skills are, umm, questionable! :P
