PSP Go - Tesco Pre-order

Featured Replies

Hello.

Spotted the above on their site earlier today. Personally I'm not bothered about one but thought it might interest some - cheapest I'd seen it elsewhere was £229.

I'm amazed that they're charging more for that than the standard PSP, especially as it's re-using the case design from a different (and failed) product, and has the UMD drive taken out.The whole concept of download only games and 'send us your old game discs and we'll make downloadable versions available' will deliberately scupper the second hand market..

It does seem a little odd , but I think this is a bit of an experiment by Sony to see how the "download only" sales model will be accepted as they aren't selling vast numbers of the standard PSP and haven't got much to lose.

I know that a lot of software houses would like to move to download only , purely so they can control or remove entirely the second hand market. From their point of view the retailers make a decent profit on the first sale of a game and then make even bigger profits each time it passes through their hands as a pre-owned disk where the publisher gets nothing.

I wouldn't be paying £200 for a PSP Go though as it seems very likely that new games will still be released on UMD for existing owners and you can get the "old" machine for £80 at the mo.

Interesting, especially as XBOX live is now going to allow downloads of full games from the XBOX360 directly. I am part of the preview for the new interface, and the prices of the games currently on there are very reasonable compared to shop prices for the same game. These are current games (eg. COD2), not the xbox originals that are already there.

What a flop the PSP has been.

Just goes to show how a bit of clever marketing and quirky design can go a long way, even if the technology isn't as good.

Nintendo got it so so so wrong with the Gamecube but this time around they've played the game (excuse the pun) very very well.

The xbox downloads are not reasonably priced! How can they justify £19.99 for an old game that you can buy 2nd hand £7 or £8. Microsoft lead us to believe that the prices would make it worthwhile using the service, but now the prices are out they seem far to high to encourage use of it.

I can see Sony doing the same thing... But it could be interesting if homebrew will work on it.

Not really fair to compare second hand with new (even if it is download only).

Imagine you were a publisher, and Microsoft came to you, said about their GOD service, said you can buy your game second hand for £5, and therefore we will put in on our service for £5, oh, and by the way we take 25% for our cut.

You'd laugh in their face, and tell them where to go. The service has to be good for Publishers and Consumers. Its going to take quite some time before Microsoft and the publishers come to an agreement that is good for everyone.
