nokia carkit upgrade mystery

Featured Replies

anybody know what the port on the cark 91 handsfree unit HFU -2 marked 'data/handset' is actually for?

looking to use it in the new motor with a cark 126 cradle - the system cable scu - 4 seems to fit in this port , just not sure if it will work in the same way as per the original (which goes into the 'phone' port).

also - does anyone have any fitting instructions for cark 126 - the one i have came out of father-in-law's Bora , will it go into a symphony HU to mute the stereo when a call comes in?

ISTR it for plugging in the separate handset that you can see to the right of the picture. Or, it's for plugging in your laptop.

never understood the point in that extra handset.

my cark91 etc goes through the standard symphony headunit. I actually printed off the instructions from somewhere on Briskoda a year or so ago, which my fitter was delighted with as he didn't know the settings / switches !

So yes it should mute the radio and say 'PHONE' !

thanks lads , looks like the extra port is indeed for that slimline handset which is for 'personal ' calls which you dont want others to hear. by definition , it means that i cant use that port for a new phone cos it wont come thro the speakers!

pants!

looks like gonna have to get a whole new setup -either a cheap plug and go or the new nokia kit (bluetooth and pop-port enabled). big difference in cost so will have to weigh up the pros and cons (plenty of stuff on briskoda discussing these).

does fabpreza or anyone else have a direct link to the fitting instructions for nokia carkits? dont need the golden labrador just yet , but cant find it here on briskoda. ta.

There is a conversion cradle coming out so you can just replace the existing cradle for a pop port one to work with the Cark 91

Go for the Parrot, or at worst Sony Ericson. They are the best bet for cross-manufacturer compatability, if Bluetooth is your prefered way forward.

would prefer summat that charges the phone whilst in the car kentish , i'll look into those options tho.

when is this cradle conversion coming out stevie c - will it fit in the (larger) phone port in cark 91? and will it be compatible with nokia 6220/6230?

Not sure when its out, but yes it plugs into the existing port and you remove the old cradle. Easy DIY job, and supports 6220/6230 etc.

Will just check the rules and see if I can post a link to it.

cheers steviec.

must admit, i had seen this unit but am thinking that for not a lot more could get whole new nokia kit that supports bluetooth also (for future phone changes).

i was just trying to do it 'on the cheap' but dont think thats now possible -think the new kit is the CK -7W , think i'll opt for that one and try the install meself thanks anyway m8 :)

Should be a piece of cake to install, assumming you already have the Cark 91 fitted. Swapped my Cark 91 for the Nokia 610 Car Phone/Kit which I installed myself just a matter of switch leads over.

would have been a piece of p**s to change from fitted cark 91 to the new one , but unfortunately the cark 91 aint fitted at the moment, just got it from father-in-law (removed when he sold his car on).

thats why i need some fitting instructions/advice on where to splice into the 12v power supply in the fabia - once i know all that then i can't see it being a major job.

i suppose if i buy the whole new kit, then the instructions will come with it, but anybody know the easiest 12v supply in the fabia to tap into for this sort of thing?

Get an extension loom from someone like Dashmount - not cheap but sooooo easy. It's all plug and play then, no splicing whatsoever.

Geordie,

I have a Cark 91 Manual I can scan for you and send in PDF if you require it. Will have to get it out the loft tomorrow, if required.

The website listed above also do a Lintech Bluetooth converter for the CarK91 -just plugs in instead of the cradle.

I may be selling my Cark91 kit soon, if anyone's interested...........?

thanks steviec but you can save yersell a dusty ladder climb!

pretty much set on the new kit (only 80 quid delivered) so ,although i can't do it on the cheap, at least it'll be the latest model.

can also change the cradle in future if needed so that it can be charging at the same time. the control button on the ck -7w looks pretty fancy , bit like beemers i-drive or summat -will have fun playing with it no doubt . thanks again, cheers,

steve.

Steviec, do you still have the Cark91 manual? I have a kit to fit but am a bit lost.

Have a look here:

Be careful if using the CARK-91 with the adaptor cable and a "pop-port" type cradle -there are sometimes incompatibility problems which prevent the phone charging I found this with my Nokia 6233.

I've got all kinds of Nokia bits around, including an adaptor cable and various cradles and CARK-91 bits, if anyone needs anything.
