DID the radio light dim with the other dashboard lights when it was working?. If so the problem is in the wiring to the radio,or radio rear plug connection .Try removing the connection plug, and refitting. If the problem is still there the actual bulbs (now LEDs) are faulty in the radio. It is very unlikely LEDs are faulty, they are much more robust than a filament bulbs which were in older radios.

Hi, its never worked since I bought the car 3months ago. Will try removing the plugs etc

The car is up for sale now so would like to get it fixed if I can

If its the original radio ,then the is a fault inside the radio. If its a non-original radio ,perhaps the correct wire in the car connector is not connected. You need to get someone with a voltmeter to find which wire on the connector plug into the radio , has a voltage which lowers to about 7 volts when the dash ,cigarette lighter etc dims. The correct wire on the radio may be marked 'illumination'.
