C Pillar electrics

Featured Replies

Hi all (long time)

I'm finally getting around to trying to fix the central locking type problem on my 03 vRS.

Having done the seaching and asked the questions before I fairly happy that the rear washer tube coming apart in the r/n/s c pillar has caused the problem that stops the drivers door operating on the key fob, the red alarm light not flashing and the drivers mirror electrics not working.

You just have to love the chap who thought, I know I'll put a junction in the tube filled with water in the one place it could realistically get knocked and put it right next to some electrics, (I wonder if my last builder used to work for skoda in their design department?)

Anyway, I've added a couple of pics. If anyone could add suggestions and or an idea of which set of wires are the problem ones I'd be very grateful. Enough switch cleaner to light a large rocket hasnt fixed it yet! The pink connector did have green in it and as you can see a bit of rust on one of the pins and as the washer tube (black one witrh the yellow paint on) was disconnected directly above it I guess everytime I've gone to wash the rear screen I've filled it with water.

is it likely the conv unit will have been fried?

Please ignore this if you have already ruled it out, but the symptoms you describe were exactly the ones I had. My problem was the old water in the central convenience unit in the drivers door.

no problem,

I stripped the door when I first looked at the, didnt look like there were any issues there that I could see.

No signs of corrosion in the pins of the connector to the elec window motor?

Mine's just gone as well - exactly same symptoms as yours (an 03 vrs as well..black !).

I've had the washer hose fixed in the boot before but it has stopped again so wonder if it has gone in the same place as yours ?

I've not had time to look yet but would appreciate knowing what you find.

The worst thing is parking up, pressing the central lock button and then realising you've left the door unlocked when your a mile down the road! Guess it's just force of habit especially when you hear all the other locks clicking.

If I get time i'll have a look but for now i'm just locking the door manually.

Hi

No corrosion in the door at all that I could see and the window still works fine, it's just the locking, wing mirror and flashing red light. When it first happened I had someone try replacing the door motor etc. as he thought it was that, but it didnt work and he was at a lose :( On my the convinicence unit at the front appears to be under the dash, not in the door.

I shall have a go at changing the cv in the boot and see what happens I think?

I'm going to

Hi

All the items you mention as not working, are controlled by the electronics that are an integral part of the driver side window motor. I suspect that the mirror heater isn't working either.

Does the central locking button on the armrest operate the other doors? If it does, then the central convenience unit is getting the signal and passing it on to the other doors.

Hi

The rest of the doors are working okay on the airrest button and the heater isnt working. The only thing that made me think it wasnt in the driver door was the timing of it happening at the same time as the washer stopping. Thinking I think the bloke I took it to tried changing a motor in the door, not sure which one?!

I should have added that the electric window is working okay if that makes any difference?

I have to go to German, Swedish or Skoda tomorrow as I found a split hose over the top of the engine today, (The oil breather one that goes in to the the front right of the top of the head) so I can buy any bits suggested then.

Kind regards

For some some reason the windows always do seem to work. It's as though they got the design of the window controller right and someone said now stick all this other stuff in there too - you have 10 minutes to do the design:D

I believe your problem is in the drivers door as this is a very common fault. You need to have a good look at the window motor multiplug and wiring loom. Check in the motor to make sure that all the pins are still intact if these look ok then go to the wiring on the multiplug and I'm sure there is a red and yellow thickish wire. Give this one a small pull with some pliers and it'll probably come straight out as the connector tends to corrode where you can't see it.
