1.4 Tdi Fabia erratic idle

Featured Replies

Whats the correct idle speed for a 1.4 tdi? Sometimes it idles at 850/900 rpm (which I would have thought was normal) but occasionally it is upto about 1250/1300 rpm, fuel economy doesnt seem that good either, 56MPG on a mixture of country lanes and dual carriageway on a run of about 200 miles. Car is on a 07 plate but has only done 5000 miles.

yer mate mine ticks over about 900 1k rpm, cant say ive seen mine go over that, and at moment am getting 55.1mpg but thats with a good amount of right foot action. also depends on how many miles your cars done i drove one that had done 7k miles more than mine, and i was over 58mpg

Tricky,

Has the vehicle had it's first or second service? If not, get it done. It can be something as simple as the airfilter being damp messing up the air sensor readings and giving confusing info to the engine idle control. It would certainly affect fuel consumption. Get it to the dealer if you don't want to poke around or if you bought it from the dealer. Please let us all know what you find. Good luck.
