Dear All,

I'm thinking about buying a 1.4 automatic elegance Fabia 2003 with 40000 on the clock for £2000.

Can you please tell me if this is a good price, also any issues i should be looking out for? since this is a automatic does anyone know what the mpg is like? i read somewhere its something around 27 in around town. Do any of you have an automatic?

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Price sounds very reasonable if it's a genuine car. Don't know much about the auto other than it uses the 75bhp version of the 1.4 16v motor as opposed to the manual's 100bhp.

I think that the general consensus is that the 1.4 16v auto is rare for a reason - it ain't very good. I've never driven one though.

If you look at the small car auto market, many of the more successful small engined automatics use CVT gearboxes, whilst the fabia gearbox is traditional. I suspect the poor MPG reflects the engine just not being powerful enough for the car, with hunting for the right gear; this will make it inefficient and horrible to drive.

Again, I have never driven one, just the impression I got from this forum.

Great Little car at a great price tbf, I would HPI the car to make sure its all clear, never had any real problems with them other than the usual fabia stuff, (Console bushes & anti roll bars) Mpg isn't that great but theres not many auto's that are. Regards Jason.

Hello again thank you for the replies. I have done a hpi check and its all clear however that car has had 4 owners and with the current owner thats 5. I'm a little concerned, the owner assures me that they have never had problems with it however they have only had it since April, they want a change of car due to "family size".

Its a good price and i like the spec but I'm worried that the car might be a little to thristy!.
