iPhone tethering

Featured Replies

Has anyone done it? If so, how?

Obviously i mean without paying the £15 extra per month that O2 wish to charge ;-)

Mine is but I'm on Voda so won't help you I'm afraid. I heard 02 were quite touchy about it if you get caught.

It "apparently" ;) Can be done with a get out of jail card.

Not that i condone that sort of thing i hasten to add ;)

Google i'm sure will help you in your Quest

I'm led to believe clicking this in Safari on the iPhone will work ;)

Hmm, I'm sure I saw one of those for Vodafone ;)

Thanks for all the info guys. I may give it a go. I am slightly concerned about o2 threatening to cut people off. However how easy is it for them to tell if you are browsing the net using the iphone itself or using it tethered to my laptop??

Just web browsing should be fine, its all the other stuff that may cause issues, like bittorrent, MSN, and other services not currently implemented on the iphone.

It will?

Very interesting , thanks Q

Call me a party pooper, but isn't this technically theft?

No.

It's against the T&Cs of the contract you will have signed , and could in theory be Obtaining Services Dishonestly (S11 Fraud Act 2006), but it's not theft.

You could try this...

Enable tethering on iPhone 3.0 - Too easy... (WORLDWIDE carriers) | richardlai's Xanga Site - Weblog

Should you try it however I'd be wary of the Wrath[TM]. Seen too many issues related to this and the service policy around the Iphone isn't great.

Yes, it is the same file as the above; a so called operator profile. Just an XML file btw, just have a look at it in a text editor :D

Cheers. We use the .mobileconfig files to set up our corporate email , Wireless and VPN access on the piephones , but this is a handy addition.

:D

Just a word of warning - if you have added tethering this way , don't update your iPhone to v3.1 software as it won't work any more
