170 CR VRS DSG. re map

Featured Replies

Anyone had one done yet? I would appreciate some feedback, I have just passed 2000 miles on mine and I can't wait any longer, so a trip to P Torque is looming.

The memory of my old petrol VRS is fading now, but I seem to remember, it was not that much different apart from a standing start.

I know I posted something along these lines a few months ago, so apologies for banging on about it. What particularly interests me is the addition of a few more torques going through the dsg box. Does it effect the nature of the smooth change.

I have just done a journey from Yorkshire to Kent and back, fully laden with luggage, two bin lids in the back and two adults, I got about 46 mpg, I rarely dipped below 70 and cruised between 80 to 90 with warp drive moments, whilst my wife was asleep. How much more mpg would I get? The magic 50 maybe??

Cheers.

I'm currently in exactly the same boat regarding a remap.

I too did a recent return trip from Lincoln to Devon, boot laden to the luggage cover, with two children in the back, at pretty similar speeds, and was really pleased with 42 mpg each way, so your 46 is brilliant.

Like you, my main concern is the rumour that the DSG can't take a huge amount more going through it, but P-Torque have assured me it will be no problem.

Go on! You go first :D. I have searched the forum, but cant find anyone who has had the op.

Seems that even googling the subject throws up bugg3r all. Must be some brave soul that's done it, in a VAG species motor.

Not exactly on topic I know but I have had my PD140 mapped to approx. 400nm for 250,000kms on my very aggresively driven DSG. It has had one DMF done under warranty at 130,000kms but I believe this is not that unusual anyway.

I also have heard that the "gearbox" can be mapped to increase its torque "tolerance". If you do a topic search, it was only recently this was on the forum...........I think it was Angel Tuning in Scotland that are the UK agent for the Yanky tuning product !!

typo's............again.

I have had my CR mapped by Will at P-Torque. Very very impressed. See below. On my own going on business trips of around 200 miles I average about 53mpg at 70mph. Defo worth doing.

It's for the DSG box though and whether it can take the extra stress. I'm sure there must be VW Golf GT170 DSG drivers in some VAG forum who could answer it although they would be the old PD rather than CR engine, although the outputs are the same.

The GT has been discounted now in favour for the GTD mk6 but it ran that DSG box for a while as did the A3 170 PD S-Tronic in PD form

Sorry my bad! Was late and didn't read the title properly!

Just had a quote from Chris Knott £384, fully comp with 300 quid excess. I think thats made my mind up.

I also had another chat with Will at P Torque about the dsg. He said, "No problem". I could be the first one on here to re map a dsg diesel by the looks of it. I will keep you posted.

The only thing that is bugging me now is the dealership re flashing my ecu back to standard when it gets serviced. I know it is unlikely, but stranger things have happened. I would not want to drive all the way down to Wolverhampton to have the thing put back on. Even though they do it for nowt.

I always ask them not to update the ECU without contacting me first, its your car after all and if you dont want your ECU messed with, thats up to you !!

I've had an Angel remap on my Punto Multijet for over three years and its been in for servicing three times, had a replacement EGR valve and a new MAF and not had a problem. Trust me if the spanner monkeys at PDH in Hassocks didn't manage to bugger it up then I doubt your local Skoda Tech will do it.

I have to say that I went totally over the top with the remap and it smoked like a 40 a day Marboro man but by God it went like stink and scared the bejesus out of many a Golf GTI driver who struggled to throw me off their tail. Go for it, you won't regret it but be warned, all that torque is adictive

If you want to ask him if he'll do 2 for 1 I'll try to arrange to meet you there ;)

I have been talking to Will at PT as well over e-mail.

Interested to hear a bit more about your Chris Knott quote, as I have been to them too for a quote. They gave me a quote for an unmodified and then told me whatever the percentage power gain would be from the map, they would apply the same percentage addition to the premium for a standard car. Is that what they told you?

Also Will at PT has told me that if the ECU gets flashed at the dealers while being serviced, they will reflash for free :)

Personally I think the Bluefin Superchips USB Option is the way to go. They have told a few on the Seat forum that the upcoming Leon FR CR DSG 170 will map to 210bhp.

On top of this is a fully warranteed remap, with the ability (and I know someone who does this after each service) of stopping at the lights and reloading the map back onto the car via the USB port under the steering wheel!

I know they carry a premium(quoted approx £400) but for ease of use and total control it's a great system.

I just asked them for a quote for my car with the map. Never mentioned my premium with AVIVA.

Doesn't surprise me. Will told me that the VAG CR engine regularly chalks up 180 bhp in standard tune. Thats 10 more than the quoted.

The equivalent BMW Diesel is quoted at 177 bhp and thats about on the nose. Those VW chappies are masters of understatement.
