256mm conversion thread

Just measured my mk1 Octavia vRS 256 carriers, the hole centres where they mount to the hub measures 90mm and the thickness of the carrier where those holes are is 20mm.

I know that if you use the 256 brakes from a 4wd model on the back of a 2wd Golf then you need to put 6mm spacers between the hub and the carrier. If you use 256 brakes from a 2wd car then the spacers aren't needed.

If you need any more measurements let me know.

Also it might be worth talking to DaveB1970 on the uk-mkivs forum as he is is the master of brakes conversions.

Aha - I never factored in that 2wd VS 4wd would really matter! :( The spacers would only resolve one of the gaps though. They're still not deep enough to actually meet the holes in the first place.

I hope that if I source the proper carriers, they will bolt on to my calipers as they appeared to be the same attachment to the caliper.

Looks like I need

1U0 615 425

1U0 615 426 C

to finish this off. The C refers to the right carrier, but unpainted in green which I need. I didn't see an option for unpainted left carrier, which I thought by chance could be

1U0 615 425 C ?

Calipers are the same, just the carriers differ.

Ignore my last PM asking about this. :D Read your PM before this reply.:rofl:

hi did these caliper carriers 1U0 615 425 C work for you?

I have a skoda vrs and highly modified for track days, Seat leon cupra,... Yesterday when I tried to change the back calipers on my seat from 232mm to 256mm I got the same problem as yourself. The caliper carrier does not sit on the hub its atleast 5mm off the hub..

The caliper and carrier set is off a Skoda Octavia rs (not mine) and according to alot forums such as mkIV and seat cupra.net they should be a straight fit but these have got me completely baffled.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can resolve this?

Hmm, not sure, but I thought the octy vRS ones were the OK ones to use for this?!

Yes mine were spot on. Were your brakes green? They sound like four motoin ones to me.

Who's octy vRS did these come from, as they sound to me like they were never from a vRS octavia at all!

PS: Please check the part numbers of the carriers as what was mentioned above are the parts I am after (along with 426 for the other side)
