Outrage!

Featured Replies

My car keeps stalling when the engine idles, and because it is an Auto it idles at speed to coast, so it's unsafe because the servo's dont work. After telling the dealer my Chassis number, he told me they had a recall for it, A whole new ECU, as it had to be entirley re-programmed. I never got any kind of notification, and it looks like I may have to actually pay for a whole new ECU!!!! not to mention all the other electrical faults it's had, It's an ex skoda fleet car, and forward motors (where it was purchased it) went broke, so could they be reasons for not getting a phone call or a letter to tell me, What should i do, I dont want to pay for a whole new ECU!!!

No, you shouldn't ever be charged for recall work, ever. It's basically the manufacturer admitting what they sold you had problems, so they should fix it.

Had some recall work done on my 5-year old Smart, and they never even mentioned charging me for it!

Wheres the joke??

If its an official recall notice, or remedy then it will be FOC to you. A recall notice is something that the manufacturer feels is essential to the safe useage of the item, and is therefore always at no cost to the consumer.

Recalls are usually safety related, as they cost heaps to operate and are officially logged.

Hmmm - you may want to check the vehicle tag in Boyced's additional info section in his profile ;) It seems you're not the only gay in the village ;)

Chris

The only official (VOSA) safety recall notice I can find for the Fabia is one issued in May 2001 for a passenger airbag problem.

Well I think 40mph or so with no servos would be considered unsafe, I mean I didn't realise how useless the brakes actually are without the engine running, they honestly hardly work at all, I will tell the dealer then that he must fix it for free?

Rob,

 from me too

If it's a recall (and they use the word recall), then yes they should do it for free.

If they stop referring to it as a recall, things may get trickier...

Mite sound a bit strange but would a remap help or is it the non-mappable part of the ECU?

You'd get it fixed and faster then

That's a point...if it just a problem with the map, why don't they just flash the newer version of the map onto it? I'd be surprised if the ECUs themselves have actually changed...

In which case, 15 minutes with a laptop, and they'd have to be proper tight to charge you for that!

His exact words to me was that the ECU was re-programmed.

Ah, well then - they should just reflash the ECU and not charge you for it... :)

What a Balls up this has been, I can't beleive this. They phoned me back, and told me that only W registration cars were affected, I gave him my exact chassis number and i told him it was a Saloon, Saloons are only avaliable from Y reg, so why he told me it had been recalled really is beyond me, So I have a car that is showing the symptoms of the problems that were recalled but it wasent recalled, confused? I know I am, what shall I do?

So it isn't an inherent ECU problem as such? It does rather sound like you need a good dealer with the necessary expertise to investigate the problem and fix it.

Which dealer did you take it too? I see your in Bedford, fingers crossed you didn't take it to my favourite dealer in Northampton.

lol, no I wont name any names, they are freindly and that, so I guess this could be an alternator/Fanbelt problem, Wow, Im hoping this may be a mechanical fault for a change, I mean people think Volkswagens have bulletproof reliability, and in terms of Engine and mechanics they probably are, but as for electrics, well I could have paid nearly 3 months of payment on a Fabia vRS by now because of this saloon, bugger it and all who ride in her, *Looks at wife reversing out of the driveway*
