Reversing

Featured Replies

Hi Any ideas why my reversing "thingy" isn,t bleeping when I reverse (good job I was looking in the rearview!). Bleeps when I select reverse & thats all.

Thanks:)

sensor faulty - they are a common problem. You usually get a long beep when first engaging reverse - then nothing.

Thanks John any pointers on carrying out a repair - new unit - where is it located - testing

Thanks:)

the individual sensors are around £80 each

but it would seem odd that all 4 give have failed in this manner - the 2 that I have had fail both started by giving intermittent beeps and, er, whines, followed a week or so later by a constant ear-piercing squeal whenever reverse is selected.

Control unit? situated somewhere in the boot I think?? I think there is a thread on here that mentions it. Think you need a scan with VagCom really...

good luck

PS having no sound from the sensors is waaay better than the squeal :D

I had the same thing with mine a couple of months ago, I got hold of a brand new sensor and started at the passenger side and replaced it with the new one. made no difference so the one I took of I presumed was OK so changed that with next one across rather than keep moving the new one. It turned out to be the third one I changed as the long beep went and "touch wood" there still working fine.

I was also able to replace them without removing the bumper as there is just enough room to get to them from underneath although I did need a bit of light from a maglite so I could see how to unclip them.

The drivers side sensor is behind a plastic trim which will need removing first but it's only a couple of torx screws and a few 6mm nuts so shouldnt be a problem, fortunately I didnt have to remove that. took about 10mins from start to finish to get them working again. cheaper and quicker than the stealers!!!!

hi,

i have just obtained a superb and apparently the reversing sensors are not working on this either, i have had a listen and i think that the passenger side sensor is ticking, but being slightly deaf and not so agile, difficult to fully say.

is there a way of testing it out to find out what is defective other than take it to a dealer?

regards
