TowBar Electrics

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have new VRS LE TDI, which infortunately after one day old was hit from behind some moron  . I am going to get the rear bumper replaced and at the same time was going to ask them to install a towbar rather than the std impact bar (i am presuming the towbar replaces this)

That would only leave me with the electrics to sort out, i am hoping this is just a case of plugging into to somewhere in the boot ? or is it a bit more complicated than that and probably best to have the whole job done by a towbar installer.

I was hoping to reduce the number of times the rear bumper has to be removed.

Many Thanks

Jas

hi has no one had to do this before ?

The electrics need to connect to the rear lights to get a voltage signal to tell them what lights are turned on and also need a power connection to the battery to power the trailer lights. If you splice directly from the light clusters to power the lights you'll get blown bulb errors everywhere. You'll need something like this: Towequipe - UK's best value towbar store - 7Pin Specific towbar Wiring Fits Skoda octavia Hat 04ON which is what I installed in my car.

The company I used took a fused spur from the fuse box to a remote 8 way ? relay board. Presumably the relays avoid confusing the CANBUS system.Seems OK.

I would leave it to the specialists ... I always do.

Hi,

Just done my 57 VRS Estate! To do this properly, you will need a dedicated wiring kit and the use of VAG-COM to activate all functionallity such as rear park disable, ABS bias, indicator bleep etc. Done it myself, used Norbrook Trailer Centre for the stuff, bit of a lengthy job but spot on!! Here is their web address.
