Headlight range adjuster motor replacement

Featured Replies

I noticed a while back that my headlight beam on the drivers side was a bit low. Tried to use the adjuster on the dash and and found I had another thing to add to the list that doesn't work on the car!

Basically the drivers side motor is dead, I managed to source another whole headlight but this was used, and didn't work either and I was told it must be the car.

Well I have now ordered just the motor as these seem to burn out. I guess the motor can be swapped over?

Looking at it the motor is screwed in with two screws and a couple of wires coming out, is it just a case of unscrewing it and unplugging a multiplug? (couldn't see where the wires went when I looked).

Has anyone here changed just the motor before, and if so is there anything that might catch me out. I will be removing the headlight completely to do the swap so access to it shouldn't be to hard.

Pretty self explanatory once you have the headlight unit out to be honest.

One electrical plug, and a handfull of torx head thread forming screws. Pretty easy really, just be careful not to overtighten the screws.

There are 3 torx head screws but the 3rd one is hidden by the motor so if you undo the two you can see then turn the motor slightly you'll spot the 3rd one. Its the one that holds the adjuster arm to the back of the headlight.

As above - did my passenger side one in situ the other day - factory manual says 2Nm for the screws so dont lean on em much. I opened up the old one and the chip on the board had blown apart !!

Hmm think the 3rd screw is a bit of a **** to get all lined up. Also wasn't sure if it was tight enough but it all works OK now. Thanks guys.
