ESP off , what happens ?

Featured Replies

Just had a thought.

What aspects of the traction control and ESP systems are disengaged when you turn off the ESP ?

Traction control is disabled and so is ESP to an extent. If you activate the ABS (which isn't disabled) then the ESP will come back on. Or at least that's what used to happen on my A4 and also on an S3 (same platform as our Octavias).

Ta. I wondered if there was some sort of failsafe which overrode you switching it off.

Simbo, one thing it won't do is demand that you update to the latest PSP release each time it gets triggered.:D:thumbup:

For once it's not just the L&K that has this. The VRs has it as well.

ASR is (I think) Anti-Slip Regulation. It's basically just traction control and won't try to save you in the event of imminent certain death.

"Traction control" means different things with different vehicles. For instance, ASR just limits engine power, but it doesn't brake a spinning wheel, only VAG cars with EDL do this. However, if you buy a Honda/Mazda (can't recall which) with TCS (traction control system, I think), it will brake a spinning wheel.

So, be careful with the phrase "traction control" :D

(By the way, I'm fairly sure EDL is disabled when you turn off ESP, I emailed Skoda about it ages ago, but I can't swear that my memory is right on this)
