1.8TSi Estate anyone got one?

Featured Replies

I'm considering replacing my Accord Tourer with an Octavia Estate probably Elegance trim.

I was thinking of the 1.4TSi but with the long delay in getting one and my sceptism about a small engine in a heavy car I've realized with the 15% discount 2 year 0%APR deal my budget can stretch to a bigger engine.

Anyone got real world mpg figures, servicing costs (how often), any faults that needed fixing etc.

I was considering an Octavia last time but didn't get further than a Honda showroom :o

Nothing wrong with the 1.8 TSi but don't be put off by the 1.4 TSi small capacity. It is a fantastic unit and in the real world its 122bhp together with its low and mid range torque makes it more or less perfect. No wonder it's so much in demand it is well worth the wait.

I'm hoping my 1.8tsi dsg will arrive in the next week or two: its build week was w/c 16/8 so delivery should be imminent (not wanting to tempt fate!)

I'll try to post something on my impressions and longitudinal stuff like mpg once I'e got it. the 1.4 tsi is also an excellent choice as lucky Bassa (a rare owner) will attest: the only problem being the wait, as you say. Funnily enough i saw a 1.4 tsi saloon in a dealership in Haverfordwest last week (though their info board described it as a TDI). It must be the only unsold one in the UK!

Redundant quote deleted.

1.8 TSI + DSG7 L&K - 2000 km.. currently on average of 7,8/100 km.. heavy foot must admit.. once you get familiar with engine and gearbox.. you simply cannot resist :)

1.8TSI manual hatch. 14months ownership, 29,000km.

1 problem early on ~5000km when the fuel pressure reg went out of specification. Changed under warranty without any issues. No other problems.

Servicing is every 15,000km/12months. 2 days pay for a basic 15,000km service, 3 days pay for the 30,000km service. I think it's expensive but it's only every 15,000km so I can live with that. My Liberty was cheaper per service but needed twice as many.

edit: I've written chapter & verse about my fuel economy - it's scattered through the Ocy2 section.

The 1.4twincharger Golf is a cracker too - I imagane the Skoda would be fine with that engine.

I ordered a 1.4TSI on 08/06/09 but changed to the 1.8TSI 2 weeks later due to the time scale for scrappage.

It has been built in week 35 and last weekend had arrived at the port in Germany........you will have to be patient unless things have improved after the summer holidays.

Thanks for the replies.

I test drove a 1.4TSi hatchback with manual gearbox, very impressed with the smoothness of the engine and throttle response. Decided I don't really need a 1.8 and will save some money.

So I have ordered a 1.4TSi Estate in Elegance trim, haven't been told delivery date yet, was told about 12 weeks.
