It's Arrived!!!

Featured Replies

Picked up the new VRS from Motorpoint today and I have to say that despite all the horror stories about these guys, I was nicely suprised by their attitude and how quickly everything was done.

The car is a pre FL Magic Black CR 170 with the odd spec change to UK standard as its an Irish market vehicle;

  • 17's (but I already have a set of 18's ready to go so keep an eye out for a mint set of 17's with 225 Potenza on Freedom!).
  • Cruise
  • Rain Sensitive Wipers
  • Auto Lights
  • Jumbo
  • Maxidot
  • Rear Electrics

Weird thing it doesn't appear to have an alarm - no interior sensor disarm switch which is kinda strange as they stated on the spec it had one!

Still, next move is on with the 18's, a Columbus with some help from Stu, Dension ipod interface and a set of 3-way Focul components, colour coded grill - I've already bought a spare, some Xenons and eyebrows, a rear roof spoiler and bluetooth. Oh and probably most important - fit some parking sensors so I can stop relying on "the force"!

The drive back to Brighton from Peterborough was long (why does the M11 seem to have more trucks than anywhere else in Europe?!!) but a good chance to get aquainted and I have to say I am very impressed and now understand why you lot rave about them!! I do have a rattle from the passenger side of the dash that is going to be fun and games to track down but hey, I'm chuffed to bits and most importantly, so is SWMBO!!

Can you get the alarm retrofitted?

You should check as your insurance company may not like it too much; Now you may say I'm not going to tell them, but that could render your policy null & void, if something unfortunate were to happen.

Still enjoy it. Lucky ******.

Sounds good. Weird about the alarm though. Does it have a button for disabling interior monitoring? Down near the anchor point for the driver's seatbelt. That'll tell you for sure, or get it VAG-COM'd :)

No button which is why I'm confused - thought this was a standard fit item no matter what market.

Doubt the insurance is N&V as its garaged but will double double check. Whatever, I'll be having a conversation eith Motorpoint tomorrow regarding it. ASAIAC they "owe" me an alarm - might have to get them to cough up for me to have one fitted......

Once I've got the Columbus I'll ask Stu nicely to get out his VAG-COM for me (oh er)!

i,ve been retro fitting alarms to golfs from ireland, to be sold in this country recently....... they wire into the can network, not a bad kit, take about 2 hours to fit. i bet the same kit would fit an octavia.......;)

I very nearly purchased that actual car last week!. Unless they have more than 1 in that colour there. I even checked with my insurance company, to check if import insurance cost more, it didn't.. The Motorpoint person I spoke to there was very helpful & gave me the full car history, about the Irish import, but registered to Mototpoint England as 1st keeper?

In the end I got a year old VRS estate, ex-Skoda management car, under 6000 miles, for a couple of grand less..

Good luck, looks like a nice car!

They had more than one - thats been registered to me for over a month now - I wanted a 59 plate. As for First Reg - I asked that and it appears that my name will be first registered keeper.............

I looked about before buying that and made up my mind that I could >just< about squeeze the funds so went for it but I also came close to a nearly new estate but SWMBO put her foot down and wanted a black hatch so I just kept quiet......:rotz:

Please don't do the eye brows and roof spoiler... it just doesn't look right and will look a bit barry

ROTFL  - I stuck those in there to see if anybody was paying attention!! I almost added "colour coded rear lights" but thought that might be over-egging the pudding

Ooooh i want your 17,s pleeeeez.Been looking for ages;)

Taxi219 - I PM'd you about the wheels last week - if you want them let me know otherwise they are going on Freedom & eBay next week.

The car now has 400 miles on the clock and a couple of issues which means I've had to book it into Rivervale in Portslade for them to have a look at;

  • Severe brake vibration / noise on offside front
  • Rattle from behind LH dash at low speed - just at clutch bite vibration point.

Not too impressed to be honest and I hope to God the fuel consumption improves as the engine loosens up otherwise I'm going to be seriously out of pocket compared to the Punto. I don't think 40mpg average is acceptable given that 200 miles of that was motorway!!

Have to wait and see..............

Good good

A Punto is a much lighter car and somehow they have very high MPG.

The engine does loosen up - give it time. Mate at work got a brand spanking Leon FR 170 CR TDI, and that was only getting late 30's when he first got it. Few thousand miles later and it's now getting into the early 50's driving the same. He also commented on how less 'tight' and more free revving it feels as time goes by. But he has said it's used a fair bit of oil as he's run it in. He's hoping that stops.

Yep, give it time - that will improve :)

Especially if you do quite a bit of mway work. How many miles has the car done now? I would be making sure the car gets quite a bit of variation in revs too. And yes, keep a close (weekly) eye on the oil level as well.

Steve

They seem to improve at 10k miles plus. Mine is on 13k & going in for its 1st variable service this week. I do 54 mile round trip to work on dual carriageway & m'way with the cruise set at 65mph and i see 50-52mpg on average at the mo, although the trip computer under reads saying only 48mpg! It should only get loser as it gets older so expect that to improve a bit further!
