Vista - Windows Mail - Orange account not sending!

Featured Replies

Hi. A quick one if you please...

I've got two Orange email accounts setup in Windows Mail; an @orange.net one which is working fine and an @orangehome.co.uk one which up to yesterday was also working fine. I haven't touched anything in Windows Mail and for some reason it won't send emails out but receives fine.

The web based email works fine.

Anyone else use @orangehome.co.uk? Having problems?

Do I really have to ring Orange? :(

Don't panic everyone... it's working again!

SMTP server issues.

Do orange have a server status webpage? Might be worth asking next time to speak to one of their agents!

Afternoon, just searching the not for solutions to the same, well at least similar, problem.

I can send e-mails from my home Wifi (which is with Orange) but not from any other wifi point....

this is really annoying. I can recieve fine, but sending is impossible.

Any other ideas?

cheers

Orange's SMTP (outgoing) server is restricted by IP address. When you're attempting to connect to it from other access points, you're not connecting from one of their allowed IP address ranges. It might be the case that you can supply a username and password to the SMTP server which would then let you send through it from any location.

EDIT - No, it's firewalled such that you can't even ping / telnet on port 25 to it from outside of orangehome / cable and wireless.

You'll just have to find another smtp server you can use that will let you authenticate and send from an orange email address.

You should be able to, but must use SMTP authorisation using the same details as your logonin when using Outlook etc..

thanks for the advice, i'll have a go and see what i can come up with.

Pete,

Surely Orange offer webmail? If so - just use that to check mail on the move!

Yep yep! Both their .net and .orangehome emails are available through t'interweb.

My outgoing emails are still randomly having trouble leaving Windows Mail which is still randomly quite annoying!
