ECU Repair

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get an ECU repaired? I'm in London as of this weekend, but anywhere the post will reach is fine.

Have been through a nightmare with my 2000 Fabia SDI. It's been off the road for over 2 months now having the main wiring harness replaced (needed to be hand made in Germany apparently). The dealer says the ECU is faulty as well (verified by a swap from a donor car) and I'm not willing to pay £1000 for a new one!

I suspect one from a scrap car would be fine and much cheaper. Assuming you are having it fitted by the dealer then there will be no problems with coding etc.

Are they assisting with the cost of the wiring loom? Do you have full Skoda Service History?

I think I would have been looking to get both the ECU and the loom from a donor car.

AFAIK, there are no special issues in swapping the ECU on this car, so any independent should be able to do it.

Yes, Skoda paid for the wiring loom because it was a known problem of some kind, though I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere. Don't have a full service history because I am the 3rd or 4th owner of the car.

An ECU repair looks to be about £150 and should be dead easy to fit myself. Is it worth getting one from a scrap car and getting it fitted by a professional? Can't see it costing less than that really.

I'm guessing it was due to the corrosion issue at the nearside wheel arch. Usually offered to owners of cars with a FSkSH as a goodwill gesture so I'd say you've been lucky.
