' A problem caused the program to stop working correctly . windows will notify you if a solution is available '

now it wont do nothing apart from open up options and re-test it , save and thats it .

any help will be gratefull , may thanks

Got full VAG com at home if you need a fault code read ;)

Buy a proper licensed copy of VCDS or download the shareware from Ross-Tech: Home

Even though you have a usb cable it runs in com port status. You need to look in device manager and find out what com port the cable is asigned to. Then match that com port to the vag-com software.

Feel free to pm me if you need more help.

When you initially install the drivers for the vag com cable, the computer will give it a COM port of e.g. 9 or higher. Since the vagcom software only goes up to com port 4, it can't find the cable.

What you have to do is search under the hardware manager and find the cable. Then change its com port setting to 1-4, just use one that's not currently being used by something else (it should say which ones are being used).

I had a similar problem using Vista it worked then stopped etc I right clicked on the VAG COM desktop icon and sellected run as administrator and it works fine now(took me days to find this solution after reloading etc etc round and round in circles)
