Lowering a Felicia pickup - Corrado Springs???

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have been reading much info on the net recently regarding lowering the Felicia pickup. I am aware that there are coilovers available, but am really looking for a cheaper solution to getting the truck nice and low!

I am going for MK4 Golf equipment on the back - no problem.

I would like to lower 60mm upfront, and CANNOT find any Felicia springs that lower more than 40mm?

I read on the web somewhere that someone has used VW Corrado -60mm front springs with the Felicia struts. Has anyone heard this?

Any help will be great

Cheers, Mark

60mm is pushing it with the standard shocks, it will be right on the limit of it's travel and might bust a seal or worse

All sorted! I have gained some info from the VWCADDY community... It is possible to lower on a MK4 Golf coilover kit (which i have ordered from ebay), with slight modification to the front hubs (increasing the diameter of the holes where the shock clamps to the hub, by 2mm, to take the Golf4 units, and by increasing the length of the thread on the rear shock rods, to enable the top mount to bolt up.

Will keep you updated on my progress!

ooh that's interesting, have you got a link to the thread on vwcaddy forum?? that would be ideal for my pickup too

i'm gonna do it :D

i'm gonna do it :D

Me too! Coilovers should be here tuesday, conveniently the day i start my 12 days off! :)

I shall keep you updated!

this is of major intrest....

would it be posible to turn down the lower part of the coilover body to fit in the stock hub carryers????? is there enough meat in the shocks????

and for people with hatches or estates. i have been playing with some corrado rear coilovers, and i am 99.9% sure thay will fit on the back of the felicia.

no such luck on turning them down in a lathe ed, generally speaking the body of a shock absorber is only a few mm thick at best, besides it would be easier to machine the hubs carriers anyway, it's notoroiusly difficult to get a shocker to run true in a lathe, i know this from when i made some front coilies

i have some mk4 r32 front shocks and some spare hub carriers kicking about. i might knock some up.

this is soundin really good as i want my caddy on it ***!

Coilovers turned up today. Stripping the car down and machining the bits tomorrow!

got up to my unit today and started stripping down some felicia shocks and the R32 ones.

it would appear that you use all of the golf top mount plus the black mount that bolts to the turret on the felicia.

also stripped the hub carriers off the rally car. the felicia shocks are 44.7mm Dia. and the golf ones are 49.7mm Dia. that wont leave an awful lot of casting left once opened out..:(.

for some reason the hubs on the old rally car have been converted to studs instead of bolts????????

the built up golf unit it about 30mm(ish) shorter than the felicia one. but because the springs are for an R32 there gunna be mega stiff, so i might have to make them shorter some how :D:D

just need to find someone cheap to open out the hub carriers.

ed do you still have those normal felicia lowering springs knocking about??

yes mate i do. that was the set i was pulling apart for the top mounting plate.

If someone manages to make this work, Please write a guide, or at least take pictures of it.

all i need to do is get the hub carryers opened out, then i'm 99% sure it's gunna go.

  • 2 weeks later...

finally got over to a friends today and bagged me some time on his mill.

managed to get one of the hub carrias opened out and it all seams to go together fine.

just need to do the other side now, and get some new R32 top mounts (the ones off the scrapper are not in a good way.

only real problem is clamping the dam thing down to machine it. had to use quite a long tool bar in the cutting head, to avoid smashing the clamps and the tool holder.

but with some very un texbook machineing and balls of steel we managed it.

Did you any finish fitting coilovers.....??

i'm gunna cut the lower spring cups off the R32 dampers, and weld on some coilover converters from "rally designs" then i can get springs to match the engine and the ride hight i want

i've still got the ones i made ed if you want them
