DLR fog lights

Featured Replies

Have asked Superskoda.com about the chances of a kit either similar to the FL VRS or integrated DLR and fogs for the pre-fl standard octavia foglights.

Seems the devil eyes project was born by the chav's on the continent, but IF enough demand, then I'm sure they would do a fog kit.

Anyone else keen on the idea?

Yes, but I'd rather have a replacement unit than chop the car up fitting them ;)

Just use the fogs as DRLs? Coding done in VCDS.

Just use the fogs as DRLs?
Is that legal, or do they run at a reduced voltage/brightness when in DRL mode?

That'd be quite a job making them fit.

Not at all the plastics used on the area where it would be fitted would be quite easy to cut into. On Seat Cupra there are a number or FR/Cupra that have these lights fitted as the bumper design is very similar to the new vRS

RedRobin from the VW Forums has them fitted to his GTi, I think they are Hella ones IIRC, a direct replacement for the OEM fogs.

No my cuppa if I'm honest, they just look like you're driving around like an idiot with your fog lights on all the time.

He recently posted this extract from the install instructions -

You can see them in this picture of his car -

No it's NOT legal. :thumbdwn: Read your highway code.

Please don't do this as the fog lights are much brighter and have the potential to distract other drivers. Not only that, but it raises my blood pressure. ;)

Also note that they are not an alternative to dipped lights in the dark. I say this because too many people seem to think that parking lights can be used in place of dipped lights, rendering their cars all but invisible in comparison to those driving on dipped beam and fog lights.

BTW, I have answered on the basis that you mean DRL i.e. Daytime Running Light as opposed to DRL.

the fog lights are much brighter

Hence my original question -

do they run at a reduced voltage/brightness when in DRL mode?

There's a bulb for the DRLs and a seperate bulb for the fog lights

Is that legal, or do they run at a reduced voltage/brightness when in DRL mode?

Not sure on either count, but I know it's possible to code them in using VCDS.

I wouldn't have them switched on for normal road use and I'm always poking fun at RedRobin for having them fitted to his.. even more amusing is that he's gone to all that trouble and the option was already there in VCDS  Gotta love him.
