daytime running lights - how to activate ?

Featured Replies

Can't imagine they would fit DRLs that did'nt come on straight from factory. Its listed as a feature in the brochure so should be fine.

You would have thought so but it is not the case, certainly on UK Elegance spec. cars. They have to be set up via VAGCom and it appears dealers only do so when the customer requests it, otherwise the car is supplied with them totally inoperable. Have been trying to find out if it is the same scenario with the more recent facelifted vRS fitted with the LED DRLs. within the foglamps.

DRLs are above the fogs are they not??? (FL vRS)

Only on the FL VRS. Non-VRS FL Octavia's it's inside the fogs.

Pedantically, the DRL are alongside and outboard of the foglights. Under the same lens though.....

Yesterday my 82 yo neighbour waved at me to stop and told me my fog lights were on. Someone finally noticed the DRL.

And yes, they can indeed be turned off or on using the handbook procedure.

It appears that on the Maxidot equipped F/L vRS, the DRL function appears within the Maxidot menu - so vRS owners can switch them on/off either via the Maxidot or indicator stalk.

Very strange that on Maxidot equipped F/L Elegances, DRL function does not appear within the Maxidot's menu.

What is the Skoda wisdom with this - a rather weird decision on their part???

  • 1 month later...

can this drl / foglight thingy be done on the octavia I? - it's the perfect place for drl's on the old octy.

Having the same issues on my Elegance..However, meeting Simon AKA the gadgetman today and hopefully we will be able to resolve this via VAG or similar...I will update you how we get on....Opting for front DRL's in fogs to be activated..via second bulb.

Also does anyone know how they work are turn lights? As the book show this as a standard feature if you have the second bulbs in fogs...?

Thanks

Ash

I think I've now come to the conclusion that having these things activated is more trouble than what it's worth..

Well, got my dealer to activate mine now, as Gregoir:

light switch off: DRLs on, tail lights on, instrument illumination off

light switch sidelights: DRLs off, parking lights on, tail lights on, instrument illumination on

light switch headlights: DRLs off, head lights on, tail lights on, instrument illumination on

Dealer initially said it wasn't possible to sort out like this (I specifically wanted tail lights on all the time), but it was. Thanks people for your answers.

Oh, and the DRLs, despite being located in front fog light housing, really couldn't be mistaken for fogs. They're just bright enough to make the car more visible.

Hi mate, how did your dealer set them up.....Been to many of them and members on here with VCDS and still no joy.....Tried all the stalk things but I guess it wont work till set up correct..Help:rotz:

Tell me about.....Nightmare!

I did post elsewhere stating that mine had eventually been set up. It took my dealer approx 5 mins. to do following quite a bit of insistence on my part that it could be done - as proved by our Mr Hugo & Gregoir. My dealer presented me with a printout offering several choices - front only in Maxidot menu, front only without Maxidot, including rear lights or not etc. I had the fronts only set up ( in foglamp units) and the control for them now at last appears in the Maxidot's Lighting & Vision menu. Although it's a simple and quick job, some dealers do not appear to be very clued up with this - now there's a surprise.

No probs.

As discussed, I think the micro can I have doesnt like the FL. Posted the question in the vagcom section, but I think you'll be 100% ok with someone that has hex+can - and those missing options will appear.

Thanks mate..I will contact them asap. It's not just about wanting the lights working but its the principle of the matter, if someting is a standard feature then I want it to work.

Have a good week everyone speak soon
