I (finally!) have a facelift Octavia elegance, MY2010 (well it doesn't have a spare wheel, yet!) and would like to activate the DRLs.

I'd like the DRL bulbs in the fog light housings to be on all the time (and ideally the tail lights as well). I don't want to go the whole Scandinavian style hog and have dipped headlights on all the time.

I did request that this was activated before collection, but I'll have to take it back to the dealer. Please could anyone provide instructions I could give to dealer when they plug their computer in. What option needs choosing?

Pleased to hear that you have finally got hold of your car after all this time. Re the DRLs, as I'm led to believe they can be set up via VAG Com. This is all well and good but I'm not certain, if once activated, you then have the option to switch them off or on via the indicator stalk. I did raise this with my dealer some time back but no reply.

Rather strange that the DRL facility does not appear in the Maxidot's menu especially considering we have the bulbs integrated in the fogs.

Anyhow, that's more than enough about DLRs, much more importantly, how's the new 'baby' ?????

Great, so it can be done. Just have to take it back to the dealer and ask them to do the same as they did to you. Do you know any more about what to ask for?

Bassa, from what gregoir says it sounds like once VAG enabled, the indicator stalk procedure will work if you want to turn them off.

As far as the DRLs going off when sidelights turned on - I think that's standard. I know the hire car I had in Iceland (Toyota RAV4) was set up to do exactly the same thing.

I'm generally delighted with it, but not had much chance to test it as the traffic was horrendous last night after I picked it up. After all most a 6 month wait I'm just glad it's here and exactly what I ordered (dealer supplying spare wheel from their next batch of orders).

I just asked for the DRL to be activated. They rang and asked me if I also wanted the rear lights activating as well as part of the process . Were done while I went for a walk.

you can choose scandinavian lights to give it the volvo look or north american lights which put just the front dip on when the engine is on and handbrake released.

Thanks, but I guess this is relevant for the cars without the new facelift foglights like I've got on my Elegance.

I actually don't want either Scandinavian or North American, but the new EU style (as mandatory from 2011, I think). There are extra bulbs in the foglight housing specifically for the DRLs, but they currently do nothing.

I'm picking up mine tomorrow and am expecting a spare wheel, though not an alloy one :(. I haven't decided what to do about daytime running lights yet.

I'll probably opt for fixed servicing rather than variable but I presume I can just book it in in for a service in 12 months time and ask them to set it to fixed whilst they do it.

Pretty sure that if I get my DRL activated, 99% of the time I would have them switched off via the indicator stalk control - at least until 2011 when they will probably be compulsory. Still, I suppose they should at least be made accessible via VAGCom, it's a bit pointless having redundant DRL bulbs in the fogs. Goodness knows why Skoda did not supply them activated in the first place.

Is it the same story with the F/L vRS and its LED DRLs - were they already activated on UK cars without the dealer having to set them up via VAGCom :confused:

Assume you can now control its activation via the indicator stalk - with ignition on, pull stalk towards you and then down, hold for 3 secs for activation. Pull the stalk towards you and up, hold for 3 secs to deactivate ?

Dealer told me that tail lights now permanently activated, but DRLs can be controlled by indicator stalk. I still don't have a DRL option in Maxidot.

I don't intend to try the indicator stalk thing, as I'm happy with them on all the time and don't want to have to go back to ask dealer to reactivate them.

Hmm, I was hoping that once set up you could turn them off/on via the stalk as required without the need for dealer reactivation - perhaps this is not so, at least with the tail lights?

If you go for front DRLs only, then that should be fine.

Thanks, that was my assumption - will get the fronts activated when next at the dealer's.

Let us know your thoughts on the new baby (the one you don't have to attend to during the night that is) once you've covered a few miles. Some pics would be nice also.

Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3

seconds after switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to

the top and hold it in this position for at least 3 seconds.

Yes, you are quite correct.. Having only tried it the once when I first got the car, obviously without success since they were not set up, my memory recall got mixed up. Probably an age thing!

Up = activate

Down = deactivate

You would have thought that Skoda would have at least set them up ready even if they were in deactivated mode on delivery.

Never mind, we're all getting older, it's called having a "Senior Moment".

It's very true that the dealer would set it up ready, so that the option is available upon delivery.

When my car arrives I think I'll try it as the manual says first then a bit later on if I'm unsuccessful, I'll get the dealer to set it up via VAG-COM.

Yes, facelift models equipped with front foglights (i.e. Elegance and above) have another set of bulbs lurking down there (not LEDs).

Having asked this before without any response, I will ask again. With the UK supplied F/L vRS and its LED DRLs, have these been pre set up by Skoda or do owners also have to get the dealer to do so via VAGCom?
