Gap in service history

Featured Replies

I'm considering going to view an '04 Fabia VRS (older than I'm ideally looking for but it looks in superb condition from the photos on Autotrader) and the seller has emailed details of the service history (copied and pasted below). My only concern is the two-year gap between '07 and '09 (in which the car covered almost 30,000 miles!). This has put me off but am I being overly fussy?

28th June 2004 – Pre-delivery inspection – Graeme P Chatham Ltd

(Skoda Main Dealer), Abbeyhill Industrial Estate, Edinburgh

• 14th December 2004 – First Service – Mileage – 10,160 miles – Graeme

P Chatham Ltd (Skoda Main Dealer), Abbeyhill Industrial Estate, Edinburgh

• 1st December 2005– Second Service – Mileage – 29,994 miles - Graeme

P Chatham Ltd, (Skoda Main Dealer), Abbeyhill Industrial Estate, Edinburgh

• 22nd September 2006– Third Service – Mileage – 44,946 miles –

Newmarket Garage, (Skoda Main Dealer) Falkirk Road, Bannockburn, Stirling

• 23rd March 2007 – Fourth Service – Mileage – 55,426 miles – Park’s

Skoda, 98 Townhead Street, Hamilton

• 6th February 2009 – Fifth Service – Mileage – 84,033 miles –

Autohaus Edinburgh Ltd, Imex Block, Unit 32, Dryden Road, Loanhead (an

excellent VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat Specialist known throughout Scotland for

thorough work & all parts used are genuine Skoda Parts)

• The Cam Belt, tensioners and water pump were replaced at the Fifth

Service at 84,033 miles by Autohaus (again only genuine Skoda Parts used)

• The Tyres were replaced (all four) on the 27th November 2008 at

around 82,000 miles, so have only covered around 8,000 miles and have lots

of tread.

• The Front anti-roll bar and brake light switch have recently been

replaced at 88,467 miles (a common fault on Fabias and some VWs) again

this was done by Autohaus and genuine Skoda Parts were used.

At that mileage and considering the Cam Belt, tensioners and water pump were replaced at the Fifth Service, I wouldnt worry in the slightest.

How much is it for sale for?

£4,995 o.n.o. - only went on Autotrader on Friday and says he's had a lot of interest already.

As Chris has said, wouldn't really worry me!

I agree that isn't of too much concern and for the price is a bargain. My car (albeit an older 1.9TDI elegance) had great Skoda 10K service intervals with a blip where it did 26K in one year. Upon purchasing the car I've had a thorough service to ensure everything running to the best it can and can't say I've noticed any issues. I think the worst part about long service intervals is not having an oil change on a PD engine.

£4995 sounds very well priced too even for 88K miles! I'm sure when I've been browsing before you are generally looking £4995 for a poorer example that needs some work doing!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I can't see any harm in going to see it so I'll try to arrange a viewing - the seller (a trader) is 45 miles from me, which is a bit of a pain.
