would you buy a TDI w 100,00m?

Featured Replies

Seen a 02 TDI in a garage, one owner 100,000m & FSSH.

Would you buy it and what should I look out for?

My current 99 TDI is just past 90k and still as good as new.

If it's been serviced properly then yes. 100000 in 2 years is likely to mean a better treated engine than 15k in 4.

AGREE! If it has a full service history, and had the timing belt checked or changed if required, you should be OK, the VAG TDi engines are very reliable, and good for whatever milage if looked after.

I know of a VW T4 minibus with 400K plus, and still reliable, even our own T4 vans had 200K plus, (and they were not looked after at all) were fairly reliable.

Short answer is yes, with full history, if its a clean car & if the price is right OK. Many people are put off by high mileage but on the TDI as others have said its not a problem. Some even believe a well used diesel is a better car.

Have a good look at the general condition of the car, if its been looked after you should be able to tell. Garages can usually do a pretty good clean but look for damaged internal trim, try folding down the back seats & seeing how much crap is under them, look at the condition of the boot to see if its been used for lugging heavy loads. This wont worry the engine but 100,000 miles with a rep lugging Brick samples might have worn the Suspension etc.

It should also have a few stone chips for that mileage, if its too clean its been in the body shop, look underneath for signs of overspray, again if its been tarted up properly its not a problem but if it has maybe ask the garage whats been done & try to get them to warranty the work if they have done it.

If it was traded in to that garage and you are unsure about anyhting ask them if you can talk to the previous owner, worth a try, some garages are happy for you to do this although they probably wont give out his details but might be prepared to ask him if he would contact you. If they are cagey or it wasnt traded to them leave it for a few minutes then ask if you can see the log book to confirm when it was registerd, then try & memorise his address etc & look him up in the phone book

...also been remapped...gives out around 145bhp IIRC.

If it was the right price and condition , then yes it could make a decent buy.
