Fitting a subwoofer to your car will void the warranty? Really?

I thought it was down to the dealer to show that any modification had caused a failure they will not repair, not just voiding your warranty because you do something as minor as fitting a sub? Are they saying that a subwoofer could cause a head gaskett to blow, or that the extra weight could cause early failure in the suspension?

OK so if you have it fitted and it blows the electrics (unlikely - that's what fuses are for) then they could refuse to repair that, but it is a far cry from 'voiding'.

I fitted my own stereo the day after buying a brand new Octavia, I went back to the dealer to sort some paperwork and the salesman was all over the stereo wanting to see it in action (it's one of those Pioneers with the animations). He cautioned me to keep the stock one so I could drop it back in when I sell the car.

You say that it is your dealer AND Skoda UK, have u spoken directly to Skoda UK, or did the dealer say that?

I think one of the words you need to use to your dealer is 'off', the other is up to you.

We emailed Skoda UK who emailed back saying that fitting a sub is ok only if fitted by dealer. Then received a telephone call from Skoda UK saying fitting a sub is ok if company fitting sub will agree to warrenty terms. As for it "voiding" they must mean that if "anything" electrical goes wrong eg: ECU deciedes not to play then they will blame sub! This is the same dealer who said they will fit a 200bhp chip to the car & still honour the warrenty

What I want to know is do I have to have the front speakers/tweeters or are they just trying it on? Asked local ICE company who would fit it for

well i had a new system fitted in my Octy by Andy_CCR on here, and my dealer said nothing to me about it voiding my warranty and i've got Kenwood Keg,2 Amps new speakers and a sub,he also is ok with my Jabba re-map and anything else i plan to do with it.

in fact he likes to see what i've done to it when it goes in for servicing, and what i've got planned.....its a list thats getting longer not shorter.......

currently at dealers getting fixed after a collision with a large Deer one morning, not good!!!!2 grands worth of damage.

It's sounds like Skoda UK are confused (particularly about the legality of their claims), but your local dealer is def. trying it on.

OK so it could be a pain in the backside if they do try and say that fitting a subwoofer has caused the ECU to go pop, but ultimately they would not have a leg to stand on.

As far as the front speakers HAVING to be replaced, I can see no good reason for this (In fairness the stock speakers are dreadful and should be replaced).

I'd trust the advice of the Car Audio guys over a Skoda Dealer (who have a bigger agenda).

I had a problem with my local VW dealer making up work that needed doing when I had a Polo, I just swapped to the dealer in the next town. Imagine my delight when the local dealer went bankrupt! Vote with your feet!

My dealer co-principle bought my Standard Stereo off me days after I bought the car and was very interested in my new ICE setup (Amps, Sub, HU etc...) He actually sat and listened to the system too!

I say: Get another dealer! (and get to the local ICE place to get your sub fitted). I've NEVER heard of any other car manufacturer being so anal about modifications (well, maybe Subaru lol)... What about if you fit a handsfree kit or plug a fridge into your ciggy lighter socket?

Vikki, was this Mitchells? If so, West Kirby or Ellesmere Port?

Seems strange, doesn't make sense to me. Speak to Adam or Ian at Soundwaves in Birkenhead - moving to Bromborough soon - (653 8638) and get them to do it for you. ;) What's the policy on headunits & autochangers as my Dad's had 2 Fabias from Mitchells and had aftermarket headunits & autochangers fitted by Soundwaves and Mitchells have never said that it would invalidate the warranty.

Right. Asked a Honda owner who has just bought a Civic RS. He went to his dealer & asked if they had any problems with him fitting a sub & amp. Gave roughly same answer as Skoda. As in, if we fit it then no problems, but if an outside company fits then this could be used as an excuse for voiding the warrenty. Vaux say the same thing if you ask them too.

Skoda UK say this is due to the way that the electrical system is used/wired up in the Fabia (?)

Now waiting for phone calls from Skoda UK about Sub fitting and whether it needs upgraded speakers, money back for the mirror due to power stearing breaking, bad paint job on the replacement mirror. Oh, and the dealer didnt tell Skoda UK that they had replaced the power steering either!

Just thought: Maybe I shouldn't have phoned Skoda UK about the sub thing but thought better safe than sorry

Don't tell them about my sub then!
