Fabia hatchback boot won't open

Featured Replies

My girlfriend has a 5 door Skoda Fabia. The boot will no longer open when the lever (inside the drivers door) is pulled. There is no noticeable sound or click when pulling the lever - nothing seems to happen.

As the boot cannot be opened with a key it is not not possible to open it at all (unless there is another way of releasing it we don't know about?).

What is the likely cause of this? Is it something we would be able to fix or does it need a garage?

Not sure, but u might be able to open it from inside the car (in the boot its self)

THe cable might of snapped

(PD: Im not 100% sure, so wait untill someone a bit more "in the know" posts :))

there is a button just above the numberplate in-between the lights. That's the main boot release, as for the problem with your cable I cannot help there.

Maybe I'm getting confused here but I didn't think there was a boot release next to the drivers seat.

Just a petrol cap release.

The boot opens as said above using the hidden(ish) black rubber button that is up in between the numberplate lights.

There is a boot release next to the petrol cap release, and also the black rubber button in-between the numberplate lights.

On my fathers sdi there was a lever pull next to the seat but no boot release button as per my vrs, very frustrating, but some models don't have them at all.

As for opening the boot, flip the seats down, crawl into the boot and next to the boot catch is a little orange tab/lever, push that UP and the boot will open and you can have a play about to see why it's not working. This is the same tab that the electric actuator pushes on when you open the boot using the electric button in the number plate recess (if fitted)

you push the lever up not down!!

I guess it must be a spec level thing then?

Quite right. I think it's only the Classic spec that has this problem because it doesn't have central locking fitted. On the Classic the boot release is next to the drivers seat (where the fuel cap release is fitted on other models). There is no release on the hatch itself.

I'm afraid this doesn't help with the original question though...

What will have happened with the lever is that the cable will have parted somewhere. Although I've not tried Stott's method, I've heard it mentioned on here before - you'll need to remove the plate that goes round the hole in the boot sill where the locking mechanism goes, BTW. Hopefully, if that's successful, you'll be able to see what's up with the cable (it'll be a problem at that end or the lever end, most likely...)

It does work, I couldn't get my boot open last week, unfortunately I was holding a trolley full of asda shopping with 2 kids sitting in it too, and then I had the child seats to move bofore I could get into the boot......................:rolleyes:
