JFReturns' vRS mods thread

Featured Replies

Not a project thread as such, but I thought I would keep all my mods in one thread rather than creating a new one very time.

So, first mod - Colour coded anthracite wheels. I refurbed and painting my old 206 GTi's wheels myself, which was a major PITA and took ten days :thumbdwn:

Didn't have the time or patience to do it again, so booked a company called Go-Repair in to do the vRS's. They came to my house and refurbed (one inch long kurb mark and a small patch of bubbling) and painted all the wheels in less than five hours! All for what I think is a very reasonable £120! The finish is excellent, with great lacquer shine. I have waxed them a couple of times, and will keep a close eye on how the finish holds up. So, here are the piccies, comments welcome :)

Awesome job on those. I was thinking about buying a set and having them painted white. This company looks very impressive

Now thats what you call a fast wheel refurbishment :D

They look excellent

Thanks :)

I will reserve ultimate judgement of the company and how good their refurbs are in a years time... but so far, so good.

Thinking next mods will be pretty subtle aesthetic ones - light tints, splitter and maybe some kind of dark headlights to continue the silver/grey theme.

I think doing the inside of the lights black/ grey would look very nice and subtle- maybe the grill as well?

Both cheap and cheerfull but with great results.

Hmmm. I'm not sure about painting the inside of my headlights as that involves softening the glue in the oven to get them apart (it did on the 206 headlights anyway).

I quite like the chrome grill :) Pretty sure I am in the minority though!

I have seen some black styled headlights on ebay. Can't get on because its blocked at work but ill put a link on later to see what you all think.........

I'm in that Minority as well, I don't dis like the black & colour coded grilles but just prefer the chrome on mine :)

:+1:

i like the chrome! ;)

Wheels look sweet to btw!

Wow that DOES look good!

Strongly suspected that anthracite standard wheels would look great on a silver vRS but until now I hadn't seen any pics of one with them done like that. :)

Defintiely swung me to getting mine done in a similar finish when I get them refurbed ...

Thanks chaps :)

@ AndrewD, yeah do it! IMO you can't go wrong for the price I paid. Where abouts do you live/work? Im wondering whether Go-Repair covers your area....

Did you check the Alloy wheel thread? If there is no silver vRS with anthracite wheels I'll add mine :)

Yeah I did have a look at the wheels thread, but couldn't find silver with anthracite standard wheels - although perhaps I didn't look hard enough! :o

Live in Manchester but spend a lot of time down in Surrey - does Go-Repair cover either of those d'you reckon?

  • Author

Maybe Surrey, but I doubt Manchester! I would suggest going to the site and asking for a quote. They replied to me the next day, but I know the guy who runs it was getting married (went straight to his stag do after doing my car!).

Hi all,

These were the headlights I was talking about earlier:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Fabia-99-03-PAIR-Headlights-Head-lamp-Light-VRS_W0QQitemZ250433664374QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a4f027576&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Your opinons on a couple of points please:

- It states they are for 99-03 Fabias. Was there some kind of phase2 Fabia1, or would these fit my 56 plate?

- Are they really crap? I can't make my mind up........... :)

I'm with Mikey on this

Its so cheap and easy to DIY ya might as well.

Dependent upon the colour of Vrs i get ill be going down that route i reckon.

But we shall have to see what car i find.

I'm not so sure - that thread is great, lots of pictures and descriptive but it still looks like a ball ache tbh.....

Another major modification today - new light bulbs :)

These were Super Brilliance Performance Ice Blue Excellence Wickedness or something. They were £25 for two from Halfrauds, and claimed 50% better light over standard. Bullsh*t? You decide:

Before:

After:

4002192964_f28ccab39e.jpg

Before:

4002199648_200ef18206.jpg

After:

Whilst I will admit my experiment is not exactly scientific (would help if I pointed the lights in the same place...), there is no way they are 50% brighter. Still, they do illuminate the road slightly better than standard, so IMO its money well spent.

Anyone tried any other bulbs and had better results?

The wheels look really good!

I think the common favourite uprated bulb is the Philips Xtreme Power +80%... I've had my set for a year and I'm still enjoying them....

The blackend headlights will look great.... definately go for it.

  • Author

Thanks :)

Yeah I have heard (after I brought my bulbs) that Phillips Xtreme and Osram Nightbreakers win the tests. Still, they do make a difference, just doesn't show up that well in the pictures.

got nightbreakers in mine very good bulbs good light output too

  • Author

I will try the Osram's next time, or maybe get them for full beam.

On a side note, I have just put down a deposit on a Mark1 MX5 :) Much as I love the vRS, I miss a petrol engine too much. I was going to save for an s2000 or VX220 but thought it would be more sensible to get a low powered car for my first rear driver. Pick it up a week Sat, can't wait!

I used to sell these bulbs to people when I worked at halfrauds. Usually to chavs in corsa, and yer there shockingly shi*e. That said one of the chaps that worked there had the ice blue rally ones (not road legal) on his C1 and they did look fantastic!

  • Author

I wouldn't say they are "shockingly shi*e". They are better than standard IMO.

Each to there own. But on the cars I fitted, and others, They didnt make a blind bit of diffrence. Some even looking worse than what ever was in standard. Altho the oddest thing was they worked really well in rover 75's..... so odd :rotz:
