JFReturns' vRS mods thread

Another major modification today - new light bulbs :)

These were Super Brilliance Performance Ice Blue Excellence Wickedness or something. They were £25 for two from Halfrauds, and claimed 50% better light over standard. Bullsh*t? You decide:

?

From what I remember reading these "50% brighter" claims are a perhaps bit misleading. Although these bulbs do produce more light than your average off-the-shelf unit, you don't actually get 50% more light in total.

The 50% figure refers to the amount of extra light that's being cast in a particular area ahead of the car that's used to test headlamp brightness, which is accomplished through clever filament design.

The biggest leap in headlamp brightness I ever achieved was when I fitted a fully separate relayed loom to my Mk2 Golf. The difference was HUGE, even with standard bulbs, but when I fitted Osram Silver Star +30% and Philips 100W H3 bulbs in the spots, well .. see below:

Holy ****! Now THATS a noticable difference!

Lol that sort of brightness causes brown-outs you know! :p

Haha. Makes a hell of a difference to safety when night driving though ... particularly in the wet as they dry the road out in front of the car :p

Update - no more mods to Furby, but she has been excellent - I have done eight thousand miles since August without skipping a beat. Wheels are still great since refurb.

However, I was missing a petrol engine.....so I brought this as a second car!

Not sure anyone on this forum is interested but just in case, its a Mark 1 1.6 MX5. Such a blast to drive, and compliments the vRS well. One is a torquey mile muncher whilst the other is fine handling sports car. So far I have fitted a cat back stainless exhaust and induction kit which makes it *feel* much quicker and sounds awesome. Not sure whether to tune this car or save for my next (VX220), but as my first house purchase is beckoning (along with the missus moaning...) it will be probably be the former, in which case:

- brake upgrade

- suspension upgrade

- sticky tyres (on standard rims which I have, but not fitted)

- roll cage (not show cage)

- and eventually, forced induction, probably turbo...

After these upgrades it should be pretty fun on track...

Some more pictures, comments welcome :)

Hi again Briskodians,

Unfortunately due to foreseen circumstances, the Fabia has to go to be replaced by my girlfriends VW Polo Bluemotion.

However, before I put up a for sale thread, I need some advice. The vRS has finance outstanding - how do I go about selling the car bearing this in mind. So far I have thought of two directions to go in:

- Take out a personal loan or (eeek!) a credit card, pay off the finance then pay of the loan when the car is sold

- Give the car back to Skoda and let them pull my pants down (they have offered £5500, I brought the car for £9000 last August...)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bump on the above question, anyone done the same with Skoda dealers?
