Bought some Springs!

Featured Replies

I wasn't planning to do so yet - but they came up on Trademe for about half the normal price and I was powerless to resist!

They're made by Vogtland who seem to have a decent reputation here. I checked with a fellow NZ Skoda owner (Turbo120Fabian) who's had a set installed for a while and he's happy with them!

I'm a little concerned about the drop as they say 35mm for a standard Octavia.

I was under the impression that the vRS was 25mm lower than standard but I dug out the brochure and it lists a standard car as having 135mm ground clearance and the vRS as having 119mm - so a 15mm drop.

Meaning I will lower the car by 20mm

Legal ground clearance limit here is 100mm so I'll be bang on that!

My concern is that the car already scrapes on car park ramps and drives - I can't go forwards out of my own drive without taking it at an angle. I've also grounded in roadworks with the car loaded with two people and luggage!

Ah well, I'll have to be careful.

Need to save for those FSDs now because I suspect if I get the springs fitted with my standard shocks it will be bouncy!

Nice one Rob !

Should look great with the drop.

Are you going to fit them now ? Or jsut wait for the FSDs ?

"Legal ground clearance"?

That's rubbish mate :thumbdwn:

My plan is to wait - unless I get impatient. :D

I know! Under 100mm and you need to have a special certification done - which costs of course. Same with adjustable shocks or coilovers - no WOF (MOT) without a cert!

What about air-ride?

Yeah get some bags on it! I've never seen a Skoda on air before.

Hi Rob you will be lucky to see a 15mm drop on those if they are for a standard Octy. You may not even see a drop.

As your standard VRS springs have done some mileage and are approx 25mm lower than none VRS Octy's the 10mm differnence could be slightly soaked up with them based upon the age of your current springs.

You should be fine with those.

Very nice! Get 'em fitted so we can see how she sits. Screw waiting for the FSD's!

If you have the time/patience try them on the standard shocks first and see if you get the bounce, Then get the FSDs. The springs look to have more coils than the H&R springs i had...... or is it just me .

It is just you Martin. Same as my old H&R's just the way they will compress may be different. I recall worrying that the H&R were neally the same size as the oem ones but when fitted and i started letting the jack down it kept getting lower and lower and I thought **** is it going to stop.

Still only ended up 15mm lower than standard.

How difficult is fitting springs? Not something I've done myself but I'd have a go :D

I have a mate who was a mechanic who is a useful person to help!!

You need a spring compressor for the fronts?

Rob it's not a hard job but takes a bit of time. The worst bit is getting the hub split on the fronts to get the strut out, there is a Skoda tool available for this, I used a stud extractor. I put the compressors on under the arch and tightened up to aid removal of the strut. You may need to cut your spring compressors down to do this as there isn't much room under the arches. The rears are easy peasy.

Rob you could just try the rears to see how they look.

Rob, with all the work you have done on your car, the springs will be a walk in the park.
