Engine Good for how many miles?

Featured Replies

I've heard conflicting opinions regarding the life of my 1.4 Octavia's engine. Some have said 150K miles while others say 250k.

It just at 90k at the moment and I'm hoping to travel to Europe every two years or so but have to say I'm worried about how it would go.

It's well maintained and serviced on time so any expert comments?

I'd say that "well maintained and serviced in time" is the key factor in any engine's longevity. I wouldn't start guessing at any predetermined mileage where it goes bang.

If it starts worrying you that it might fail, you can always have a set of basic tests done? Compression in cylinders etc.

Bottom line in my opinion is don't worry, just drive it. Keep it servived as you have done and have nice trips :)

Dont worry about it, plenty of life left in the engine yet. Should be good for well in excess of 150K if serviced properly.

as long as the oil is changed regularly, cambelt and more importantly the cambelt tensioner (as these are quite often the cause of cambelt failure) are changed every 60k (personally i prefer to change mine every 40k for peace of mind) although don't think the 1.4 16v has a cambelt, but a chain, i'm sure somebody will correct me! and the engine isnt thrashed when cold, then you should easily see 150k - 200k, maybe more. we recently had a octavia taxi in that had covered 217k:eek: and still ran sweet as a nut! ok it was a diesel but the concept is still the same. german engineering, you can't beat it!
