felicia 1.6 will not rev over 3000

Featured Replies

starts fine and can idle forever... at least 15 minutes anyway

but when revving over about 3000 engine dies, sort of makes noise like it's not getting enough air, when engines stops i can start it right away

idle is around 7-800rpm

so far cleaned trottle body, replaced lambda sensor, fuelfilter, tempsensor(with 4pin plug)

problem came when car was at yearly government test(bilprovning), all the hc, co2, and lambda values were 100% ok, but when driving home afterwards the engine shutoff when pressing the clutch coming up to stoplights,

first analysis was:

here they shake the car vigourously to see problems with chassi, this shook down dirt in fuelfilter, it was absoluty blocked could not blow air thru it, but replacement of fuelfilter gave new problems see top, tried resetting ecu disconnecting battery, leaving ignition key in on posotion for 30seconds

need more ideas....

Blocked catalytic converter?

Is the exhaust blowing the air out?

You check all air intake hoses etc?

Phil

This is often a breakdown in the internal resistences in the coil(packs) and/or HT leads.

another vote for coil from me. but i allways suggest doing a diagnostics test before throwing any more money at random parts

Yep, HT problem, had this happen on a Renault years ago, had to crawl home using less than 2,500 rpm.

It might be a simple as a split in the insulation on a lead shorting the system out.

late update.... it was not a blocked cat, but a blocked exhaust/silencer, i ran car without air cleaner etc connected just naked throttle body, but did not think further,

garage charged me around £300 for new exhaust incl all

no codes at all from obd, so this was down to old style listening to engine

Thanks for the update and good to hear it is sorted.. :)

I have half right with my guess then!

Glad you got it sorted and it's running ok now.
