Unable to activate all functions on Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to all this so here goes.....I'm the proud owner of an 08 Octy VRS :) and have recently purchased a Columbus Sat Nav unit from Ebay to replace the Stream radio. Having fitted it am very pleased with it but according to the manual it should display a lot more than it is eg Reversing graphic and temp settings etc, as well as Nav directions and audio info on the multidot, which it isn't. I'd be grateful for any assistance because if the set is faulty I have only got until Friday to return it

needs coding with Vag-Com and even then you may not get full functionality unless it the correct model number / type for an Octy. If its a 3To its for a Superb and you may not get the Maxidot display etc.

Aha ! that makes sense, just had a quick look thru the forums and your'e correct as mine already has the clock and fader graphic as the Superb has, have contacted seller and told him I want it exchanging for an Octavia unit. Lets see how helpful he is now the seller has had his cash.....

Parking sensor and climatronic displays aren't going to work on it without updating your climatronic controls and controller and wiring for your parking sensors.

Hi simbo :) This is the fella http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/multims_ltd If he won't exchange the MFD3 I'll go thru Paypall. To be fair the unit works well but I do want my Maxidot and reversing graphics back, they worked fine on my Stream

Got mine from this guy and it was faulty. The Hard drive wouldn't show up when the media button was pressed nor did the sd card. Sent it back and got a replacement unit that worked fine. He was a little slow though and didn't reply to any of my emails - which made me think i'd been ripped off but he came through in the end. Also upgraded firmware no probs on the unit he returned to me. Got reversing sensor fitted as a freebie from dealers but don't come up on unit. could be a coding problem though.

What year is your Octavia?

And what fw is the Columbus?

There are some little glitches if you just put a Columbus in your car.

First, forget the reversing graphics. You will never get them as in your stream.

The only possibility to get the newer reversing graphics are, when you have the latest hardware for the sensors and the black box that connects to the can bus.

The problem with the maxidot can be solved if you use a later firmware on the Columbus.

Columbus in an Octavia just isnt plug and play. (it strongly depends on the car and the columbus, firmwarewise and hardwarewise).

As already mentioned, the reversing graphics will not work at all without replacing the reversing sensors controller with one that supports the columbus and modifying the wiring slightly.

Maxidot is a coding issue, and easily sorted with VAG-Com. Depending on the model of columbus you may need to disable or enable BAP.

TBH you wont miss the parking display anyway, I have not missed mine in the last 12 months.

That's who I got mine from... he has another username on eBay too octopus183 ...also somehow linked with the company OEMretrofits.co.uk which is who I collected mine from.

You still won't get the parking graphic showing even with a 1Z0 ...you won't miss it though, really! :)

Strange thing i noticed was his address is in Manchester but the Columbus came with a Hull postmark which unnerved me a little. He's also got a shop in Blackburn.

Heard back from the seller and he says I need a vagcom update to get the multidot to work. Only place I can think of down this neck of the woods is Dealers and am sure they would cost me many shillings :(

Take a look at the VAG-COM Users Map ...PM someone local to you & sweet talk 'em - go armed with beer!

or a peperoni, mushroom, onion and jalapeneo pizza in my case

Heard from seller, he will exchange the MFD3 , hopefully I get the correct one this time, back to me trusty Stream for a while then....

go armed with beer!
Remember, apply the beer only after the coding has been done and the cable well and truely removed from the car

Boring! I did some mean VCDSing on the Inters camp site when I was utterly caned. It went fine, it just took me a while..

Replacement MFD3 arrived today, all fitted and working and integrates with Maxidot wohoo!!!:D For those interested according to stickers on unit it is HW 104 and SW 1004, it came with a Nav DVD v 5, this is a VW disc, but assume it will still work.

The nav disks are all the same, so V5 VW will be the ones loaded onto the HDD,

Any firmware will work - you don't have to upgrade it... 2664 is the newest firmware & adds features like support for SDHC cards, voice control, fancy balance/fader etc.

On a 2008 car, you won't have the flat battery issue full stop no matter which Columbus you buy or what firmware is on or you put on.

From another thread where you posted pictures, you have Maxidot? Other people have reported that a 3T0 on older firmware doesn't display on Maxidot in a pre-facelift Octavia like yours.

A 3T0 if for a Superb II or FL-Octavia... a 1Z0 is for a pre-FL Octavia...

I reckon a 3T0 upgraded to 2664 would work with Maxidot in a pre-FL Octavia... but that's easy for me to say when it's not me who's buying one though!

ok then u are saying that i can buy 3T0 cloumbus not worrying bout Firmware and SW it is going to work right ! At the back of audience stream i have one big cluster of wires and 2 thick black wires may be one for the FM/AM and the other for the steering control just confirm that thanks. Another thing what about the parking display and AC display?

It's a chance you take - loads of people on here and other forums have had 100% success  Others not so lucky :thumbdwn:

You got yours from the same seller I did' date=' I had no probs upgrading (other than the flat battery issue so had to downgrade ).

I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. Have you opened it up to see if there's any solder marks on the board?[/quote]

Havnt opened it up, unit looked like new when I fitted it with no signs of the seals being broken, but think I'll give it a miss as dont fancy having a flat battery :(
