thinking of getting a mk2 as the old mk1 served me well

Featured Replies

hi guys and girlies ,

my old company car (03) as now turned over to 117k and served me well with no breakdowns ever(hence why i bought it off work), she's never needed anything other than wear and tear parts and a coil pack

is the mk2 2.0tfsi just as good as this old bus or should i keep her till she becomes a future classic

any info would be great

tar in advance

I'd say yeah, go for it. the Mk1 is good, but the Mk2 is so much better.

I went from mk1 to mk2 ( as did many on here probably) and I think its streets ahead in both the way it drives and the interior

My attitude to cars is to keep them until they're worth nothing or about to cost a lot provided they still work properly, then get rid of them and do a cash deal to buy the next one. This works fine for me though since the car is my secondary mode of transport. Once a car hits the 10 year old mark, things like airbags needing replacing and your relative safety if you're hit by a 10 year newer car is another consideration, though less of an issue for the last 10 years than for the 10 years before that.

The Top Gear test where they set up an offset collision between a 10 year old Renault Espace and a current year one brought that change home. The new car went straight through the old one and would have certainly killed the driver and probably the passenger behind without even registering a crash serious enough to set the airbags off in the new car.

Hello Paul, good to see your thinking of staying with Skoda. Iirc when you had a Volvo before the Octy and didn't take to the Mk1 too well to begin with, It's good to see you now like it.

As you know I had the Mk1 and have recently moved to the Mk2 vrs. There are quite a few difference between the two. The power is quite strong from the start with the Mk2 and I hope a remap will turn it into an animal but time will tell. The Mk2 is also much more refined and the interior is much better and easier to keep clean also cabin noise is much reduced. However I do miss the rawness of the Mk1 and the rough, tough looking front end.

Overall I would say the Mk2 is a much better and faster car but the Mk1 had much more character.
