Weird Smell when AirCon NOT on...

Featured Replies

Anyone come accross this one before?

Weird smell.....perhaps plasticy/chemicaly/polleny/weirdy :D

Anyhow, started a few days ago and I can't shif it - at all.

Goes when I switch air con on...which is odd, it's normally the other way around.

Tried removing and cleaning pollen filter - still stinks with it removed!

No debris in the intake...so I can see...and it would smell with air con on anyway....?

Tried one of those Air Con cleaning bombs...no difference. It's almost like the smell is created from the vents...Stench :rotz:

Any other ideas where to look?

That's problem number 5 to sort now......Getting as bad as my Ford

Is it the same with the recirc on/off?

The only thing I can think of that could cause a funny smell is the blower motor itself.

Does the aircon work ok when switched on? what you describe kind of eliminates a possible refrigerant leak anyway.

Yea same with both Recirc on or off....that works perfectly cos I can hear the motor moving the flap...

Air Con works ok...and the smell goes when this is on...which makes me think the motor is ok....also I have had my head in the pollen filter bay and had a good sniff...air there seems nice and fresh..........

Is there something else between the pollen filter and the vent outputs?

How often do you use the aircon? It's a musty kind of smell right?

If so, it will be from the aircon system and should go away after a few days of not using the A/C. I am led to believe that it's a sign you don't use the A/C often enough. If it's not going away at all, I don't know what else will cause it.
