Skodateile "box of tricks" fitted to Columbus

Featured Replies

I missed Stoofa's group buy on the Kufatec cable, so decided to add one of these to my order for a Maxidot from Skodateile.

This is a VAG (SEAT?) OEM part - no. 5PO 035 225. Surely this should be available in the UK?

Once I'd plucked up the courage to take my dashboard apart it was easy enough to fit - just unplug the aerial cable from the Columbus, connect the adaptor to both aerial sockets on the Columbus and plug the aerial cable into the adaptor.

I had a mini panic when I couldn't get the Columbus to go back in far enough, but the adaptor takes up no more space behind the unit than the GPS aerial connector, and after a few attempts and some help from SWMBO everything was ok.

Completed the install just in time to catch Darren Bent's goal and two assists on 5 Live - 18 points for my FPL team :)

Can you post a link to the exact item on the site you've purchased?

I'm assuming it isn't this one:

www.skodateile.cz

The reason I didn't go for the one above was pricing - I did manage to get some discount, but was still looking at around £65 per unit.

The part number you list looks very similar to one given to me some time ago.

I believe it is actually a Seat part number.

However I contacted three Seat dealers who all told me that particular part was no longer available when they looked it up.

What is it? :o

It is the item you have linked to, Stoofa.

I paid 78 Euro last month when the exchange rate was a bit better than now, so about £69, but postage was free as it came with a Maxidot.

I realise it is a fair bit more than the Kufatec cable, but having been out in the car today I can confirm that both the AM and FM reception are excellent - far better than on my old Stream unit. I suspect that there is something inside the black box to amplify the signal. I'm looking forward to listening to 5 Live again after seven months of Radio Norfolk and Radio 2 :( so well pleased with my purchase.

The label on the box the part came in has a date 22.4.2009 and "Made in Italy", so that suggests it must have been a current part number until fairly recently.

I'll post some pics when I've downloaded them from the camera.

Well between us and Mater we have proved that both options work :) , so you pays your money and takes your choice

With this Skodateile adapter (if it is the one Stoofa linked to), do you still get the antenna fault codes showing up in VCDS? ....just wondering if the difference in price includes some electronic wizardry to fool the HU into thinking it really is 2 individual aerials connected?

I can't comment on this right now as I don't have access to VCDS, but will need some coding done when I get my Maxidot fitted, so if anything shows up then will post details.

I believe you are right and the "box of tricks" you've got does have an amplifier included - I think I found another one for about the same price elsewhere.

As you said - both options are confirmed working :)

So this part must be on EKTA then?

I got one for mine and can confirm it clears all the antenna fault codes associated with retro-fitting a Columbus into an Octy II.

Is everyone using nothing or the cheaper cable having the error codes under VCDS?

Or is that unconfirmed.

I have not had my car scanned for faults since fitting the cheaper cable from the GB, but it works fine and reception seems unaffected. Both AM and FM work perfectly, with the cheap cable.

Now get two fault codes for the antenna  but every thing works ok :D
