Octy 1 Wipers getting slower

Featured Replies

The Wipers on the 52 plate 1.9 tdi Octy1 had slowed to a slow snails pace, the car hadnt been used for 10 days & I dont know when the wipers were last used, I blasted a can of WD40 at everything I could see this morning & they have sped up a bit but I get the feeling something on the rack is siezing, am I right, any quick fixes or is it a new rack, cars done 146000 miles

Remove the wiper arms and scuttle panel. DIsconnect the plug and remove the wiper assembly. Give the mechanism a good clean (including the wiper posts) and spray with copper grease.

It sounds like your mechanism is partially siezed. Remove the assy clean then grease all the rose joints paying particular time with the wiper spindles. It worked for me, good luck

3rded - it's a well-known issue with all of the A4 platform cars.

I'd probably put a new rack in for the limited cost of the parts.

By the time you've cleaned it all up, got new plastic lugs, replaced them and greased the whole thing up, the cost is probably similar and the results will be better with the new rack.

FWIW, I found KuRust worked well for preventing a new rack rusting up, with careful application in the correct areas.
